Placement of Cameras into the Sidney Nest Sept 06
Slide Show   Previous    Next

The bulky nest -- not only is the nest about 5 x 6 feet across it is about 3 - 3.5 feet deep. Generally west coast nests are plced on horizontal branches in Douglas Firs and the annual rotting and weathering 'donw' equals approximately the material being added each year by the adults so the nest stays about the same depth. In decidious trees, where there is often a deep 'V' formed by the branches and the nest builds up annually in that 'V', there is a tendency for the nests to get higher or deeper each year. This nest is probably about it maximus height.
