The two big ones have their darker down now, but the youngest is still light colored. #1 is two weeks old today, and #2 will be two weeks old tomorrow. #3 is half a week younger - he won't be two weeks until Sunday.

Hmm - I think I've been neglecting this nest.

Well, it's now six weeks later - and I think at least one, and probably two have fledged! Grin

I don't have pictures, but I was seeing two on the nest much of the time yesterday, though I occasionally saw three, and once in a while only one. We did determine on another forum that there are some branches within reach, so at least one of them might have been branching when only one was visible.

These are from earlier today - I initially thought one had fledged when it suddenly disappeared, but I now think it was helicoptering out of sight, given that it reappeared in about the same spot:

And while I'm not sure, I think the following set of pics show an actual, very brief flight. Mom is on the back of the nest through all this (not easy to tell her darker feathers in all pics) - and I am assuming C1 (who I think fledged yesterday or possibly earlier) is hanging out with Dad - but I really can't prove this isn't C1 back for a visit. My gut reaction is that this is C2 (and since I can't tell them apart I'm going to assume they'll fledge in order of hatching, though we all know that isn't always the case) - and I think it's an intentional flight farther than she could hop, which in my book says she's fledged now if she hadn't already. Grin

She(?) starts on the perch; you can just see her tail in the upper left in the second pic; I don't see her anywhere in the third pic (though they do blend in well); and she's on the edge in the 4th pic.

She obviously could have hopped out to a branch - but I'd expect her to either stay there longer than a minute - or continue flying back and forth. It's one of those hard to define things, but I got the impression she was sitting there taking a deep breath and saying "I did it" in the last pic. Grin

By the way, the middle chick is 57 days old today; the oldest is 58 days old, and the youngest is 55 days old.

Good morning! I was watching quite a bit yesterday, and am fairly sure that the third chick hasn't fledged, though it's done some flapping and I think some flights across the nest (hard to be sure with a refresh cam). One of the other chicks spent a lot of time on the nest, and Mom was there frequently, keeping an eye on things. I didn't see all three there at the same time, so am optimistically assuming one of the fledglings has decided to perch near Dad, wherever he hangs out.

The second fledgling has been spending time away from the nest today - and the third chick is doing more flapping - and flying up to the perch branch and back down. I'm not sure I've seen him there before, so this may be a step along the route to a fledge. He(?) is now sitting there preening and looking out over the water.

Not much to add but some pictures - this is one of the most beautiful cams I watch.

The cam was down part of the day yesterday, but as far as I can tell, the third chick still hasn't fledged. (And why would he - nice view, free fish?). He (or she) is about 8-1/2 weeks old, which is generally in the middle of the fledging period, though a lot of chicks seem to have fledged relatively early this year.

I'm not positive, but it looked as if he spent the night perched on the edge of the nest (sleeping while perched seems to be a step towards fledging), and one of the adults - likely Mom - spent the night on the perch. Though it could have been two chicks in the nest - the night vision cam doesn't do well on detail, though it does give a good overview to what's happening at night.

I caught a fish delivery this morning, and while the second chick arrived promptly, so far the young one has kept control of the fish and is continuing to dine.

Hmm - I was thinking the third chick fledged - but now I think the osprey on the perch is a chick, not Mom like I thought earlier. I'll have to look back through my pics to see if that means I've actually seen all three chicks today (seems like I normally only see the "nestling" and one fledgling at a time - and I can't tell if it's always the same fledgling, or if they're taking turns. Well, this is still a nice sequence of pics - though it would have been more interesting if it was a fledge.

And now that the light has changed and the osprey has moved a little, it is clearly a chick on the perch.
