Added - lovely day, and no one is home.

It has been quite hot, which might encourage the eagles to stay nearer water or shade.

I was up fairly late last night and didn't see anyone visiting the nest. I was wondering about the adult visiting the nest alone, and a little worried - and then it occurred to me that on the nests where the fledglings return regularly, the adults don't exactly get to eat - if they show up with food, they're usually promptly mantled off the nest.

I do know that adult eagles eat regularly - so they must do it somewhere that the fledgling(s) are not. Since Mom and Dad Libby may now have taken LL to a fishing/scrounging area away from the nest, it does make the nest a safe place for a parent to come to have a peaceful, peep-free dinner. love

Good morning!

It's been a week since "Little Libby" fledged, and none of us have seen the not-at-all-little fledgling since then. I've also only seen adults there once (on Sunday the 18th) - not sure if it was the same one twice or if they came one after the other, but at least one was using the nest as a quiet place to eat.

All of that leads me to believe the adults are with LL somewhere else in their territory. I don't know for sure, but it seems to me that if something happened to LL, they'd be back puttering on the nest, getting it ready for winter. So I think they're busy showing LL how to soar and how to fish and all the things eagles can demonstrate for their offspring away from the nest.

I'm hoping as she gets more confident with her flying, she'll be back occasionally before setting out to explore the world, so I intend to keep watching whenever I can for another month or so. But I'm going to stop doing the date and weather, and will only post if I have news.

Safe travels, Lovely Libby - and do stop by for a visit if you're in the neighborhood. wave

(And CAL - safe travels to you as well - and I hope you'll be back online before too long.)

Good morning All,

Congratulations LL! Fly free and proud!

Thank you so very much, JudyB, Maryann, Bev and MaryF for your dedicated reports and pictures! What a joy to be able to catch-up with LL and her parents after my vacation.

Since the Libby cam has only been showing July 28th, I decided to call Alana/USACE at the Libby Visitor Center this morning. Alana says that she is just now writing an e-mail to you, JudyB. Seems that USACE has decided to pull the plug on the cam until next nesting season in February 2011. In fact when Alana answered the phone, she said: "Is this Judy?".

Eagle highlights of my Montana vacation: On July 15th about 75 miles east of Libby near Rogers Lake and Ashley Lake, I got to watch two sets of Juvies explore the area; one set of 3 and the other set was 2 Juvies flying together. Only saw the set of 2 Juvies for a couple days but the set of 3 circled overhead from the 15th until the 18th of July. They were magnificent! I was able to count their flight feathers with binoculars.

Happy to be home again and back on the forum. Although it was wonderful, I need a vacation from my vacation.

Welcome back, CAL! Grin Grin Grin

I did indeed receive an email from Alana, and was planning to post an update - and a thank you to the folks at Libby Dam tonight.

How wonderful that you got to watch two sets of fledglings! I also have local eagle news - but it has nothing to do with Montana, so I'll let you know when I've figured where to post. And it's not quite as good as triplets flying - but it was fun.

So glad to see you back - and looking forward to seeing you on other threads once you've had a chance to rest up a bit! Whistling
