I am so mad... have you guys seen the article in the Washington Post where the Zoo director was saying that they are negotiating about sending Mei Xiang back to China and getting another female panda in her place? how can he separate Tian and Mei like that? just because Mei hasn't had another cub in the five years after Tai Shan's birth? Its not her fault. grrrrrrrr.

Yes I saw it Terilyn and I"m not impressed either. To them it's a business and Tai Shan was really big business, he brought in a lot of money. I suspect from their point of view, they spend a ton of money on the pandas and they expect a better rate of return.
If all they want are cubs then I hope they send Tian and Mei back together, they've been together for a long time and I think they should stay together. The only saving grace in this entire episode is that since they were both born and raised in China then they would be going home and I'm sure there are keepers and fans there that would welcome them back with open arms.
I also hope they don't do what they typically do with a panda that won't reproduce which is to send them to some hell hole zoo in a backwater like they did to Tian's mother Yongba.

There are currently two groups of US fans touring the panda bases in China. One of Tai's fans has taken some great photos of Tai - (she went to see Mei Lan but sadly as she was inside the photos were too dark to post..boooo..hopefully someone will get photos of our Lani bear to share with us) - and she even got to feed Tai ! Dee has posted an nice update and photos about her visit to her site.
Tai looks great, you can see what good shape he's in and how nice and shiny his coat looks
