Sorry to hear your report of both Strathcona nests being gone, Larry. That makes eight that we know of that have been lost due to the many wind storms we have had since August. Thanks for going around to so many nests to give us updates.

wave Friends of these Eagles.
Strathcona was my second stop on rounds , not knowing what the state of this pair maybe after losing their nest.
I noticed that their original nest that they were in ... in 2010 when I first started observing them had been built up a bit,
whither it was our Eagles ?? Iím not sure. As I was looking around the park Two Juvies and Four adults were soring above me,
Lafarge, Hastings maybe Strath. was fun to watch and got a few picís but they were pretty high up . Good thermals coming off the water.

Wonderful news for Strathcona eagles and ground observers of this nest!!

The male has survived being electrocuted in December!! That is so rare for an eagle to survive an electrocution. OWL will be releasing him at NOON this Saturday, the 12th, at the nest site. So I'm sure that some of you will want to attend and see him hopefully join his mate. The SPCA is right near the nest and they say they have seen what they think is the female there. So hopefully Pa can join Ma and just in time for egg laying too.

Unfortunately David Hancock and I will not be able to attend as David is giving his eagle talk in Blaine, Washington that day at the annual Wings Over Water (WOW) festival. So we look forward to hearing from Larry and others of our members to take pictures and post them here.

waveindeed, This is intersting news seeing that this pair did not use their nest in 2015.
So it makes me wonder if this is Pa Strath or another male in the area.Pa should be at least 11 to 12 yrs. old ( if O.W.L. knows )
ill ask on Saturday, think ill do i trip to the nest just to see if Ma has a new mate already (which might be a problem)
Normally for this pair over the past 4 yrs. they have been the first to lay and hatch eaglets, So their is a good chance that Ma is in the nest bowl already.
Will let you all know what i see.
cheers

Due to my power being off for 11 hours today, I'm just now getting online to read the forum before heading to my own nest for the night. Tomorrow I will post pictures here of David banding the male bald eagle that will be released at Strathcona this Saturday, the 12th, at noon.

Thanks for your comments, Larry.

Here's Mindy and Rob at OWL checking out the male bald eagle, who may be our 'Pa Strathcona', before David Hancock bands the bird.

Dee returns 'Pa' to the flight cage to remain until his release tomorrow. Hope some of you can attend to watch him fly freely once again, hopefully to find his mate waiting for him.

Thanks again to OWL for the marvelous work they do in rehabilitating and releasing raptors back to the wild.
