Notice the red (blood?) on the inside of the tail feathers. He/she I believe had just returned from a meal.

The crow in this shot continued until the eagle couldn't take it any longer.

Awesome pictures capo - may I ask what kind of gear you are using? Your images really are outstanding.

Where exactly is the Anderson Hill site? I have photographed Eagles at the Fire Hall, the Golf Course and at the Marina (when they happen to come by). I would like go out to Anderson Hill to do some photography.

Thanks Tanner

I use a Sony Alpha 350 and most of the time a Sony 70-400 "G"SSM. It's a really nice piece of glass. Sony has in body stabalization as well. Really helps with the longer lens.

The spot I go is a little park off of Transit Road right at Beach Drive and Transit. You can take a little path to the top of a rock. It's surrounded by houses and when the eagles are there they are very close and don't seem bothered by the company. Unfortunatley they never hand around to long because the crows bother them. Best light is the evening or early morning. It's pretty harsh for photos during the day.

Recently came across another nest out my way. It's on the one way road between the Belmont Park navel housing and Royal Roads . Half way down in a big fir tree. Eaglet is getting ready to fly. Tough to photograph as it's pretty forested, not much light and your right under the nest. I have a few shots I'll post when I get a chance.

Thanks saasyk,

I was at Anderson Hill again last night and the evening sun made for great shooting. The banded eagle was onsite as usual and his/her mate showed up later, but was not thrilled to see me as you can see in the first 2 shots. The third shot is the banded eagle watching someone come up the trail. Crows were very quiet last night. Didn’t bother them at all…enjoy

wavecapo. Wow, more outstanding photos of the Anderson Hill eagles. The 2 eaglets are probably close to fledging, if they haven't already, and sometimes they will perch in the trees on Anderson Hill. You can see the nest from Island Rd., about 3 houses up from the corner of Central. It's behind a cream coloured house with rust coloured trim. I must get over there again soon.

Question:

How do they feel at the golf course about folks using the parking area to take photos of the nest and eagles?

thanks

I believe I heard from sassyk or elle that the club does not appreciate photographers in the parking lot. Sad Do you know anyone who's a member there? Of course if you decked yourself out with golfing clothes and a set of clubs, they might think you belonged there. Wink Twisted
