Terry , I do to this little guy was my first eaglet pic. I drive home past this nest every day and can see the park from the job site. Prior to last week would see them floating on the thermais,Now nothing. Stoped in for a min. yesterday and had a walk around, still nothing. I'm hoping Martin P or Ian will give us better news

Well, I dropped in at this nest for about 30 minutes after work today. Couldn't find any eagles, or see any sign of the eaglet. I'm hoping it's just a really deep nest, and it's hiding from us. But there was no sight or sound that would indicate the nest is active. I don't think the eaglet could have fledged already, so we'll just have to check for a while hoping we are wrong. Actually, I checked back in the posts. From my photo on May 6th, the eaglet had grown quite large. Can anyone else with more experience say if it would be possible for this eaglet to have fully developed and left the nest area in the past 3 weeks. I don't think that's realistic. From what I have seen they would be around the nest for a while practicing flying. But who knows, I'm not one of the experts.

Hi iansmith, urban eagle, and other friends of this nest.

I'm not an expert, but I'm afraid it doesn't seem likely that the eaglet could have fledged. Sad

This is one of Martin's pictures from May 3

And here's a s'cap beans took of the Lafarge eaglet on May 19

They look quite similar to me - from which I conclude that the Strathcona Park eaglet was about two weeks old than the Lafarge eaglet. The Lafarge eaglet is 6-1/2 weeks old - so I doubt if this eaglet could be more than 9 weeks old. The books say eaglets can fledge at 10 weeks - but it seems 11-12 weeks is a more common time frame. And I would also expect it and its parents to stay in the area for at least a couple of weeks after fledging.

I'm sorry. Cry Cry Cry
