Students who chose one of their eagle drawings as their best art work to display at our Celebrating the Arts, which was held last Thursday in the school gym, received lots of positive comments.

I'm so glad they had positive feedback - they really worked well on the art work!!

But more than that - the fact that they had come to love the subject and were personally interested, showed through!!

A good lesson for anything else they undertake in life!!

Ms. Weatherall stopped at my home and told me about the wonderful art display at the school. I couldn't resist going over to take a peek myself. All I can say is WOW ! G.T. students and staff have an amazing amount of artistic talent ! WAY TO GO !!!

While out for a bike ride up Gold Creek Road, I spotted a bald eagle landing among the trees close to where Joseph Creek enters Phillips Reservoir. Armed with my camera, I set off to capture it on film. However, after half an hour I had nothing to show for my adventure except for a distant glimpse as it left its perch and flew further into the riparian zone by the creek. I had the consolation of watching some ducks land in the water, and just after an osprey sailed overhead on the way to the far shore.
I wonder if any of my students spotted any bald eagles on the weekend?

Stewart, that sounds like the same area where Rob Allen told me he sees eagles quite frequently over the past few years. I'll bet there's a nest close by. It would be wonderful if we could find it to see if they are raising any eaglets this year.

We learned that several of the class had a story to tell about seeing a bald eagle on the weekend.

Twins Carson and Cali were camping with their family up Gold Creek. Carson saw a bald eagle. Although Cali didn't see it, she found a large nest while looking at trees for any signs of squirrels. However, she didn't think it was big enough to be an eagle's nest. Jodi and Tristen both live close to Moyie Lake but are not related. Jodi watched a bald eagle land on a tree while Tristen spotted an eagle circling over the lake, both on the west shore. We wondered if they had seen the same one. Morgan's gran told her about a bald eagle she saw near her property on the west side of Elizabeth Lake, which is probably the one I have seen previously. Jordan's dad was out visiting his father (Jordan's grandpa) in Saskatchewan and took a picture of one he saw perched on a quonset barn.

Goodmorning , Isn't it wonderful to come to class on a Monday morning and hear, not one, but several stories of bald eagle sightings.

Perhaps the nest Cali spotted was a hawk's nest. Although not as large as an eagle's nest, they're still a good size. In fact, It's believed the nest our Delta1 eagles were using was previously a hawk's nest. It's not large enough to raise a family of eaglets in, and thank heavens this year the adults are not using it.

Although we received a warm greeting from a family of Canada geese when we visited Elizabeth Lake this afternoon, there was no sign of the bald eagle. We saw many mallard ducks, Canada geese and coots. We had lots of fun catching all sorts of different water bugs and insects including hundreds of mites, shrimp, leeches, a huge dragonfly nymph, and a ferocious predacious beetle nymph, which was attacking a damselfly nymph.
