The new camera is in - but not yet correctly positioned. Here's a shot from it from yesterday while I was aiming it:

In this one you can see the chick to the left of the big branch in the center.

Lafarge is going to add a cross-piece to the mount and try to push the camera to the left and up so the view is not as obstructed by the leafy branch seen in these images. The branch is only out of the way when the wind blows - otherwise it is even worse than the one on the original camera Sad

This tree seems to be growing exactly where we don't want it Sad

The camera is archiving to the server at the site now - and I've asked WildEarth to add it to the list of channels. We'll see if we can watch both cameras but I fear that this will cause problems of freezing. You viewers will have to decide if you will put up with this or if we should just go with the one camera.

Thank you, Richard - those are beautiful! Grin

(I suppose it's not possible to install a really big fan so the wind will be blowing from the right direction to keep the branches out of the way.... Whistling)

Does the new cam have sound?

My initial thought would be to try both cams if possible, so we can get a sense whether the buffering/freezing seems a reasonable price to pay for a second perspective on the nest - or whether it's better to have one cam that doesn't freeze every time the eaglet does something cute.

What do other folks think?

Admin note - this discussion about the cams may be deleted at some point - it doesn't really add anything to the record of the eagles at this nest. Wink

Chin The new cam seems to be sharp and clear with brilliant colors. Would it look more or less like that to us as we watch it? I vote for the new one if they get it positioned a bit better. I'm not up on these things...wouldn't two cams use even more bandwidth?

Terry...where are you? What do you think?

ETA..the little one really looks grown up on that second pic..that's hard to see on the other one!

There is no microphone at this time - the Lafarge people will allow us to put one directly into the nest when we get access to it but for privacy reasons won't allow one that is remote/directional.

Just so you can see what the camera looks like, I've pushed it to our test "presenter" channel at:

http://www.zaplive.tv/web/hwf-presenter/home

I'll leave it running for a while - it's using my laptop to do this so as long as I don't need the laptop it will run.
It will "interfere" with the other camera stream as much as pulling to a regular channel would so you can get an flavor for what the streams will be like if both are running

Re microphones - very reasonable. This year is good - and next year should be great!

And I see what you mean about the leaves - I've been watching for about five minutes, and must say this is the best look at the tree I've had. But I'm still not quite sure where the nest is, and have no clue if the eaglet is visible. I've gotten used to finding her among the leaves on the other cam.

I haven't noticed any buffering or freezing, though there aren't many of us watching either cam at present.
