Quote by: DB53 Quote by: soph9as far as I concerned it's fine...just wondering how you did it because we only have three browse buttons.....
I use Photobucket to post my pictures.
~ Pat, if I have done wrong Please PM me!! ~
Hi DB53 - and welcome to the forum! Great pictures of the "not exactly storks"!
I'm not Pat, and I'm going to reply here rather than by PM so others who wondered will be able to see the answer - and after a while we will probably delete the posts that are about how to post pictures as they are off topic - hope that will be OK with everyone.
It's fine to use PhotoBucket to post pictures. It seems that more people are using the attachment feature, so we tend to assume that's what everyone is doing. We haven't brought over the guidelines from the old forum yet - part of a long list of housekeeping projects for when things slow down - but the relevant rule is:
Limit images to a width of 500 pixels and a total file size of 150,000 bytes per post. Note, if a space is inserted between each picture and no picture is greater than 500 pixels wide, the new software will automatically spread them vertically down the page if combining them would exceed 500 pixels wide.
Your pictures are 600 pixels wide, and that probably isn't a problem; the average monitor size is larger now than it was when the rules were written. If they were any wider, people with smaller monitors might need to scroll sideways, which is something we're trying to avoid. I didn't check the total size, but again, as more people move from dial-up to faster internet connections, the allowed file size will probably increase.
In general we as forum assistants and topic monitors don't look at each photo to see if it's within the rules - but if we find a page that's scrolling sideways or has part of the text hidden by the block of announcements on the right, we may ask people to reduce the size of their pictures or make them clickable thumbnails or whatever. Similarly, if someone tells us they're having trouble reading a thread because it's loading so slowly that it times out, we may look at the number of pictures per post and the size of the pictures, and ask people to spread their pictures over more posts in the future. As a rule of thumb 4-6 pics per post is usually fine unless they're quite large, and I sometimes squeeze in 8 if they're small.
I hope this helps - and if you have any questions, please let us know!

Thanks JudyB for the info. If my pics are causing a problem you may remove them. I hope that I didn't cause any problem for the forum thread.

No problems, DB53. If they were much larger we'd probably ask you to resize them, or offer to do it if it wasn't something you could do easily. My computer at work has a fairly modest monitor (especially when I have a cam open beside the typing window ), and this size seems to fit OK, so I'd say (unofficially) - keep doing what you've been doing - they're beautiful birds and it's a lovely large-format cam! But if you're going to post fairly large pics, you might want to limit it to 4 pics/post.
