There are six heron nests in the eagles' nest tree that I can see in the photo's above.

Here are a few more things we saw out there the last couple days.

And here are a couple shots of the heron rookery across the lake from the eagles' nest.

PuzzledPuzzledPuzzled Okay, I went down to Baum Lake with my scope and camera. It was difficult to see inside the nest, but, the eagles' nest is occupied by a Canada Goose and what appears to be a gossling! It isn't so clear on the picture here, I know, but there is also a heron sitting on its nest to the left of the former eagles' nest.

There was an eagle on a snag further down the lake where he or she always hangs out. It left the snag while we were there and flew over the former eagles' nest tree and continued on and flew over to the adjacent lake.

Here is a picture of a sole eagle on his/her snag on the lake's edge and a photo of the shoreline showing the former eagles' nest to the right of the center of the photo, between the two tall trees; and the snag in the furthest tree on the shoreline. The original heron rookery is out of the photo, but it is up the arm of the lake to the right of the photo.

Don't Know I guess a goose taking over an eagles nest is not unheard of. Here is a link to another Hancock entry:

Hi Eagle Eye, Very interesting photos! I love the pine with all the herons and their nests that is a great shot. The pine with the eagles nest and heron nest is also very good. Are you sure that it is a Canada Goose in the eagles nest. It would be very unusual for a Canada Goose to nest in a tree, they normally nest near the water and the goslings are on the water right away. I did check out the article and that is very rare indeed! Nodding The bird in the eagles nest appears to have a yellow beak. Canada Geese and goslings have black beaks. It will be interesting to see more photos of that nest in the future. Thanks for sharing your adventure.wave

Been out a lot, but have had little time to post here. Yesterday we saw two eagle nests; one with a visible eaglet inside, the other had an adult sitting on the nest. We also saw two otters. That was on Lake Britton.

The goose has left the eagles' nest at Baum. Actually all the geese have left their nests and are just cruising in and around the lake. Hopefully the gosling in the tree floated down to the ground without incident. Don't want to know if it didn't.

Saturday we saw a great horned owl next to Fall River. A female mallard tried to chase us away from her two ducklings. She was VERY protective. I did get some good shots of her. Maybe after work I will have time to come back and post her picture.

Saw a curlew on Friday out by Big Lake on the levee. Had never seen one of them before. Sorry, quick sighting and no time to get the camera out.
