Hummingbird ... don't know what species. Any help appreciated. There were a pair doing a mating dance beside the trail. This one took a break on a nearby branch.

I have seen this American Kestrel in the same area many times. Very shy. Always difficult to photograph.

Hello Doug: Great pixs of birds in flight. Sounds like a monster storm is on the way Friday. Maybe a good day to stay inside.

First you must follow before you lead.

Hi Ed * Yes indeed. It was a hard blow. Still very gusty today when I checked the nests.

NEST REPORT

4-4-10 * Smugglers Slough Nest

With one parent in the nest and the other eagle in the nest tree, I was surprised to see another adult in their nearby perch tree.
After a while, the intruder flew right over and landed in the nest tree. This, of course, got everyone excited. The one on the egg{s} was screaming, but stayed put. The parent in the tree was screaming and took to flight. A chase ensued, though it seemed half-hearted, as though the intruder wasn't a huge threat. The parent quickly returned to its perch, the intruder made another lazy lap around the trees and then headed West in no particular hurry.
13:26 * The "almost adult" intruder.
