Great to see you here, Sue - and thanks so much for the update! Three eggs does sound a bit more manageable than four - though they really did a great job with the nest full of eaglets last year!

Kate's website is great - and I'm looking forward to seeing the book when it comes out next spring - the pictures on her website are spectacular!

Hi Sue... I am so happy to read your update on the 3 eggs... JudyB is right on.... 3 is so much more manageable than 4. I followed all of your updates last year and look forward to what you share this year as well. I would love to live in your back yard. haha

Thank you Sue for your report on the nest. We certainly value all that you do here when you have the time. Enjoy your eagles - still pondering that bear, what a day that was!

i would love to get that book so will be in touch with you later on.

Thanks Debbie, Judy and Judy H for keeping the eggs rolling here in this unusual and wonderful site,
carolyn

Mom was just having a serious need to stretch her legs. She got off the nest and flew around and around for about two minutes, leaving the nest unattended. But she was no further than the "scenic snag," a nearby dead tree, as she circled. Then she's hunkered back down in the nest. She just needed to stretch, but her flight was cautious and hesitant.

I'm thinking we're less than a week away from the first one to hatch. Dad often sets on the scenic snag. It's within a couple of flaps from the nest and has a great view of the river. It's his favorite grooming perch. It's also the first place the eaglets fly to when they first fledge.

I will be able to photograph the first baby head within two weeks. And I should have a solid count by the third week or so of April. Video camera is all set up.

And yes, I'm still in awe of the fact that there was four chicks last year. And I'm still in awe of capturing on film the attempt of the bear to access the nest. It's a story I'll tell for years. Every person who visits me has to watch the bear video. We continue to be stunned at the footage, albeit a little fuzzy.

First baby hatched on March 26. Two days later, Mom was acting funny as if another was hatching. I'm positive we have the two expected chicks. After that, there was just constant activity of feeding, moving around, flying off. Dad was frequently sitting on the edge with food. I know it's going to be a few weeks before I can confirm how many babies are in the nest. Yesterday I saw one of the parents tearing off tidbits of food to feed a chick. That would make the first chick almost two weeks old, so understandably ready to eat solid food.

Wonderful news, Sue - thanks so much for letting us know!

It's quite amazing how fast the tiny chicks start eating large pieces of food - amazes me what they can swallow and fit in their crops!
