Sad to see this Kay. We seem to have a lot of this with all our windstorms. Hope the eagles here will rebuild.

Oh Kay, I just heard. What a sad discovery, hugs to you. hug
I asked David if eagles would still lay eggs after a loss like this and he said as long at they have not incubated for more that 12 days. So I'm holding out hope that if they were on similar time line as White Rock nest (first egg Mar 13) that they still might have a successful year. fingers crossed

Hi all, yes it is very sad indeed that half of the nest was destroyed Sad I will continue to watch for the eagles as there are a lot of trees in the park where they could build a nest, if they don't rebuild their existing nest. When the Brentwood Bay nest blew down, the eagles built a new nest within a week. I haven't given up hope yet :thumrht: The Blenkinsop eagles's nest blew down a couple of years ago and I haven't found a new nest yet.

Kay: Why do you think the broken egg at the base of the nest tree is a heron egg and not an eagle egg? Sad on both counts, but likely to be an eagle egg due to the location and timing don't you think? Sad

elle, the egg looks very similar to a heron's egg I photographed last year; the shell has a bluish tinge to it. The egg and piles of nesting material were actually not at the base of the nest tree; they were in the general vicinity. However, I certainly am not an expert and I'm giving my opinion of what the egg looks like.

Thanks Kay. Phew I thought the egg was at the base of the tree. When I was there on Saturday, the day before you got those snaps, I didn't even think to look at the base of the tree for fallen nest material. Roll eyes Can anyone at the park confirm whether any eggs were lost?

I sent the info and the pics to Fred, one of the park managers who I correspond with, but he is away until next week. Paul, the other park manager that Fred and I corresponded with regarding the eagles, retired last year and his replacement doesn't seem to be interested in keeping up with the eagles' activities Roll eyes I'll post more info if I hear anything new. It's quite possible the eagles hadn't laid any eggs yet; it seems to me last year they were later than some others in the area.
