Good Afternoon All!
A new post on Facebook by Traci! Sounds like our chicks are starting to venture out on their own more now.

Pot Plant Owl

One of my friends in our complex (two houses down from us), saw the chicks sitting on her children's jungle gym. No doubt they are exploring more and more on their own now.
Looking forward to the Festival of Owls in Minnesota. For all of you owl lovers attending, we are planning to arrange a breakfast table at the Saturday morning 'Owl pancake bake' to chat and catch up.

Another new post from Tracy!

Pot Plant Owl

Heard Pappa calling again last night, followed by a light thud from the balcony as Pot Plant Owl landed on our table. Woke up to mess / soil on the balcony floor. Who's going to clean that up, PPO?

Wonder if Merlin and Timka are out on their own now??

Tracy and Allan have been in Minnesota this past week or so to receive the award for the PPO Owls. I keep checking her facebook and blog, but so far no pictures or word from them. As soon as there is, I will post again!

Good Morning All! Tracy has finally posted on her facebook regarding the award she received in behalf of PPO Mom and Pappa!

Pot Plant Owl

A long overdue comment on the 'International Festival of Owls':
It was such a fun, well-organised and informative event. For those who love owls and nature in general, it is an absolute 'must' and should be on your bucket list - hopefully to tick off very soon.
Karla Bloem, her husband Hein, and the throng of enthusiastic volunteers deserve a big round of applause for a job well done!
There were a few highlights for me:
1. Getting PPO's Lady Gray'l Award on her behalf. (I have since spoken to both PPO and Pappa who are very pleased with the award, although they are unhappy that I haven't put the award in the pot plant yet)
2. Meeting Karla and Alice. Learing about Karla's work and being there when Karla inspected Iris' eggs.
3. Meeting PPO Chatters and spending a bit of time with everyone -
"You guys are wonderful, and thank you for making the time to come to the festival"
4. Meeting Denver Holt - leading expert on Snowy Owls. Next to PPO, Snowy Owls are my favourite owl. Denver's work is well documented and known worldwide.

I encourage you all to attend this festival, or to start a similar festival in your own countries to encourage greater awareness about owls.

A second post regarding Molly's Cam by Tracy:

Pot Plant Owl

Sad News: Terrible news about McGee from Molly's webcam. It brings home to me just how transient everything in Life is, and how one cannot afford to take one day for granted. I can't imagine how I will feel if / when I am faced with the same situation with PPO and Pappa. My hear goes out to Carlos and Donna.

It is with much relief that I can report seeing PPO on the rooftop last night and hear Pappa hooting in the distance. I then watched PPO fly towards Pappa and the two of them took off into the forest against the backdrop of the setting sun.
After all the recent news, I'm not taking one sighting for granted anymore.

Found another post by Tracy on Facebook from yesterday:

Pot Plant Owl

This is the man who inspired me to believe that one person can make a difference in conservation efforts. I read his books before our plight with the wetland and realised that if he can do it, so can I. If you haven't read his books yet, they are really worth the read:

Tracy and Allan have another wetlands fight on their hands. Here's the latest posting on Facebook:

Pot Plant Owl

Developers are at it again - this time on the property adjacent to 'PPO's' wetland. We heard trees coming down on Saturday and have been trying since then to get the Government Department to intervene. This adjacent site has a protected Granite Ridge on it, and both the saved wetland and this site form one sensitive ecosystem with many birds, amphibians and some small animals. So its now back to the drawing board for us...

Sure hope the Government Department intervenes quickly!
