Black-crowned Tchagra (Roberts 7th ed.)

The Black-crowned Tchagra has a height of 23 cms and weighs around 53 gms. The head is coloured black, white while the bill is coloured black. The Tchagra senegalus has a white coloured throat, yellow legs and a brown coloured back. The eyes are brown.(1)

The black forehead and crown and the paler underpants differentiate it from the other tchagras. It is also a larger, bolder bird and is more conspicuous in its behaviour. (2)

"The Brown-crowned Tchagra has a height of 17 cms and weighs around 35 gms. The head is coloured brown while the bill is coloured brown. The Tchagra australis has a grey, white coloured throat, yellow legs and a brown coloured back. The eyes are brown."(1)

The Water Thick-knee has a height of 41 cms and weighs around 270 gms. The head is coloured brown while the bill is coloured black. The Burhinus vermiculatus has a white coloured throat, grey legs and a brown coloured back. The eyes are yellow.(1)

The Groundscraper thrush is a smallish to medium bird. The upperparts are plain grey-brown with a chestnut wing-panel. The underparts are white with black spots and the face is white with bold black markings. The underwing has a black and white pattern which is visible during the undulating flight. The bird has a slow whistled song and a clicking call. (1)

"The Southern Black Tit has a height of 16 cms and weighs around 21 gms. The head is coloured black while the bill is coloured black. The Parus niger has a black coloured throat, black legs and a black coloured back. The eyes are brown."(1) White wing coverts. Tail tipped and edged in white.

The Hooded Vulture has a height of 70 cms and weighs around 2100 gms. The head is coloured pink while the bill is coloured black. The Necrosyrtes monachus has a pink coloured throat, green legs and a black, brown coloured back. The eyes are black. (1)

The Lappet-faced Vulture has a height of 105 cms and weighs around 6500 gms. The head is coloured pink, red while the bill is coloured yellow. The Aegypius tracheliotus has a pink coloured throat, blue, grey legs and a brown coloured back. The eyes are brown.(1)
