Thanks for the links, IrishEyes Red Heart

I spent a good deal of time last night and this morning (as well as asking my fellow bearheads) where people get the idea that Dr. Rogers feeds his research bears -- which is not true (other than a few nuts as explained above).

Perhaps this myth and false rumour started because Dr. Rogers has captive bears at the North American Research Center. Their names are Ted and Lucky and Honey. They are bears that he rescued from captivity. Dr. Rogers does feed them. Here's a link to general info about them:

http://www.bear.org/website/the-nabc/me ... story.html

The only other explanation that I can think of is that, for a short time, he gave Hope supplemental feeding when she was separated from Lily. Perhaps that has "morphed" into Dr. Rogers feeds all the research bears regularly. By the way for those that don't know, it was a member of HEG that created the formula that saved Hope's life. I forget her name but she is a veternarian (sp?) or perhaps a rehabber, I can't recall exactly.

I feel so sorry for Dr. Rogers. He is being falsely accused of so many things and persecuted beyond belief! I don't know how he's managed to keep going all these years. There is an incredible amount of myths not only about Dr. Rogers and his research, but about black bears. All the man wants to do is study the behaviour of black bears and share that knowledge so that we will understand bears better and be able to co-exist peacefully with them. And all that he's asking for is for hunters to spare the lives of the few research bears within a miniscule area of the state of Minnesota so that he can study one family across multiple generations. Is this really too much to ask???

You are welcome Skipper... I also watch Ted , Honey and Lucky... love that cam...

Elle.. Thank you for the links...hug interesting read...

I often think of the saying my dear departed grandmother use to say.....

" he who does nothing will never be criticized"

I think that can apply to all us here as well as Dr. Rogers...

Skipper that was a great post. It is certainly not too much to ask, but for some reasons some folks consider it stepping on their rights. It goes back to what I said about our becoming an unkind people - some think their rights trump other folks rights and they are unwilling to even give an inch.

Unlike those here who give a mile.

I am so glad we have an opportunity on this forum to discuss these very sensitive issues in peace. I feel that each of us needed to have a say in order to heal, and to collectively come to solutions or ideas. Whether or not we agree at least we have had an opportunity to be heard. Thank you all so much.

Bev, I will check the links. I followed Lily and Hope but didn't have time to read all the updates each day.

Skipper, thanks for the additional information.
