I am going to shut down early this evening. The cam seems to be down right now. Saw that the screen was frozen and now it won't come up at all. I'll give it a try later and if it's back up, I'll put the video on for the night. I have a couple videos to go through from while I was at the vets and the since I came back home. I just don't have time to edit them and upload them. I'll catch up tomorrow!
Have a good evening friends!

Can someone explain to me how Owls feed their little ones? Don't Know
She is eating little bits, does she regurgitate it in a while to feed the owlette? Or do they try and tear off little bits to feed?Puzzled
Thanks

Hey Jean,

Good Morning Gail and all!

Gail that was a rodent that Mom was eating. I have a video from earlier that I will edit and upload this morning. I captured the video before heading to bed and thought a second owlette had hatched and Mom might be eating it. I sat here for a few mintues till I was sure it was just some prey Pappa had brought to the nest. Phew

Here's the video I captured before heading to bed last night. Mom was eating something and struggling with it. Almost looked like a baby! Phew Glad to see later it was just a rodent!

Very Happy Cheers A new little owlet!!! Egg Hatch I've watched this cam before and still have to chuckle at Mom's choice of a nesting place. Those quarters get awfully tight when the young'uns start growing! Wooh Can't wait to see it all unfold!!! Wub

Good Morning MaryFHello

There is talk at Facebook that Allan posted on U-stream that all 3 eggs had hatched. In reviewing the video I had on all night, I still see one owlette and 2 eggs. Mom has never left the nest since then so it's hard to tell if we have any more hatches!Don't KnowPuzzled Guess we will have to wait till it gets dark there and Mom leaves the nest!

Jean
When I watched another owl cam the owlettes did not come that fast. I would have to go back and look at your notes to see how far apart the eggs were laid. They may hatch with less distance between hatchings than when they were laid, but the man's report does not seem to go along with what I saw when I watched several owl clutches in the spring.

And it can take forever for mom to move enough to get a good look.

Donna glad you agree with me. I did see flashes going off when I took these last caps. Allan or Tracy must be taking them from their window.

Just to review again here's the time line:
Time line:

First egg..Aug 30, 2011
Second egg.. Sept.1, 2011
Third egg...Sept 5, 2011

Estimated Timeline of Events:

Nesting - usually end of August.
Laying of eggs - nesting begins with the laying of the 1st egg. The female then lays another 2 eggs (usually) - each egg is laid approx 48 hours apart. Total estimated time for laying of eggs is approx 7-8 days.
Incubation period - approx 30 days from the last egg laid.
Hatching of the eggs - as above - approx 30 days from last egg laid.
Eyes opened for the first time - approx 12 - 15 days old. Lovely to watch the chicks trying to focus on objects around them.
Games and curiosity period - once the chicks are bigger (from approx 25 days old), they start moving around a lot more, flapping their wings, playing with objects in the pot, standing on the lip of the pot
Wing flapping / testing of wings - starts from 33-36 days old
Chicks flying - Our chicks flying starts anytime from 40 days onwards.
Fledging - with the location of the nest, the chicks are with us for longer than they would if the nest was low to the ground. We have the chicks for 57+ days from when they are born. In the 2nd year, we had them for over 70 days.
