Debs, I think Solitaire's parents are doing it all wrong. I thought the idea was to stop feeding the young ones to make them leave home in search of their own foodRoll eyes If they keep feeding her she will be too heavy and won't be abe to fly very far, and it's a long flight to the mainland or any of the other islands. She looks hugeOh My Love your last pichug

Kay wave These parents are the master at parenting Whistling Nodding they have years and years of experience ....K18 has tried their patience Laugh afterall she was to be gone over 3 months ago Oh the shame so I think they are trying reverse psychology giggle I have watched the Channel Island nests for six seasons now...I love the view these cams provide Clapping and I like the fact that we can see them year round as the parents do not generally migrate since food is plentiful.

Elle wave Thanks for sharing that post here I did read it on our Lily's thread but some of our nesters may not have. ETA our posts I think crossed as I did not see your post right away. I know we both advocate for many of the same policies now if only we could rally together hey....look at the change we could create Clapping Left thumb up

Debs, I don't remember if I mentioned this before, but we tendered into port at Avalon on Santa Catalina Island in May 2009 on the way back to Victoria on our cruise. We booked a shore excursion and did a tour of half of the island. The tour guide talked briefly about the eagles on the island and how they have made a big comeback. Unfortunately we didn't go by either of the cammed nestsSad

Thanks for the welcome!

It is great to see y'all and Debs, I love your cheery notes. I hope Kay you enjoyed pics - I have more but will be off line for a few days to help my daughter, well that is except for a tad of lurking.

That eaglet Solitaire, has been there how long? Not left? Isn't that a rather unusual situation? She is mighty pretty though.

This is a great thread - relaxed here and comfy cozy. Will stop back.
smiles and good night,
carolyn

Carolyn wave Yes K18, Solitare's presence at the nest....is unprecedented as far as I know....I have been watching since 2006 and I have never seen a juve remain at the nest this long post fledge. Next week Solitare will be 27 weeks old ....nearly 7 months old!! So yes this is very very unusal to say the least. So glad you enjoy perching here...we wuv to have you here.

Kay wave Must have been wonderful touring the Channel Islands...too bad you did not get to see the nests...what a shame hey. Hubby and I talk about going to the CI all the time....and I have a bro in CA so we could visit him and the islands at the same too. I know the distance to the main land is great for these juvies and often its a fatal flight for the juvies....50 percent do not make it that first year Cry

Now I am definitely off to la la land...wave.

It's so good to see so many Nesters perched here today (Thursday)!

That K18 is looking like a very healthy fledgling! Stocking up for a flight perhaps?

I do hope that those upset by the killing of Hope are able to combat the problem of bait killing in the way which will make a difference!

Now, NNSTDLBBBYA!!! happy Cool hug Nodding Left thumb up Whistling sleepy Good night
