Good morning . I have a coffee , too, after a horrible restless night . Could not sleep. I suppose the comment about discussing Hope was actually meant for the Black Bear thread. So........

Anyway I have been in a lazy paralyzed state for a few days and must get on with all the things I have let lapse while I have been in a torpor.

So I leave you with this incredible feel good story on the front page of our local newspaper. You just never know. I do know WildArc really needs the water line and this is such good news.

Nice to see so many up enjoying this morning I've been doing laundry and housework all day so no birding for me today I wish I would win the lottery so I could make donations to all the wildlife shelters and rehab. facilities. What a wonderful gift that lady left to the SPCA. Bless her heart

Good Evening Nester Buds

K18 at the Two Harbors nest is still being fed by the parents last night I saw a huge feeding and Solitare had a huge crop as apparently she had been fed four times yesterday. Perhaps the parents are trying to fat her up to encourage her to leave home ....not sure it will work with her. She is near the nest again tonight crying for supper

SJ Hope you feeling a wee bit better tonight my friend. Sending you some cubby super sized hugaroos just for you from all of us here.... talons crossed that you feel much better after a good night sleep yep yep yep.

Elle Golly life is too short to toss and turn all night.... tossing you a . Our family here is a very friendly bunch and we respect each others opinions. Sometimes our opnions are even known to change I think given that this is a relaxed thread we should have more latitude than an observation thread....providing we respect each other. I do not even think our Lily thread even qualified as an research/observation thread it was more like a discussion thread than a structured research/observation thread I posted there much of the winter and it more like a discussion thread with observations included at least imho....but in any event if we cannot share our opinion here then I am really The day our own opinions are muffled on our relaxed thread is the day I am packing my bags and going home Thanks for the link to that wonderful story...warms the

Hey dude. Thanks for your uplifting email and for your kind words above. I do love all animals and that is a fact. I could accept Hope's death if she had died of natural causes, or an accident or an illness, but not this undeserved ignominious end and fate. I truly do think it is time to re-examine the modus operandi for future years in ways that would better protect these research bears. And Debs: I am a lobbyist for animal rights. And for others, no I don't knowingly eat wild or factory farmed meat. I do eat wild fish.

I'm afraid the pros and cons of hunting may be one of those areas where we will need to respectfully disagree.

I would also like to request that this thread be a place to observe what is happening with the bears, and not the political issues that sometimes lead to some sad results, such as this.

Because this is not a research thread, I think it's quite reasonable to express sorrow here - and to post a few favorite memories of Hope.

I think it's also OK to express anger at the way things worked out - but not at hunters in general or at that hunter in particular. After a week or so, if there is interest in discussing some of the more general issues involved, we could do that in our conservation area.

But please, no controversy here.

So you decide. Personally I am still so upset and sad and sleep deprived and have nothing more to say on the subject. It might be best to drop it and move on because we can't bring Hope back. But of course if others have something to say please do so.

Thank you Kay: that news made my day! I know WildArc will be able to operate so much better with piped in water. Currently, it is a real struggle to conserve water when it has to be trucked in. There is always a mountain of laundry and dishes waiting to be washed.
