Dr. Sharpe posted on the CHIL forum to confirm that there's at least one chick at Pelican Harbor as of April 9. He's pretty sure there are two, but didn't get a clear look at the second. When he was in the area by helicopter on April 6 he thought there was at least one chick by the way the adult was sitting - and was able to confirm that yesterday.

The PH nest banding was done this week - say hello to A-74





There was only 1 chick in the nest - according to the initial data, this eaglet appears to be female. Hopefully there will be further pictures and video later in the week. Welcome A-74!

A-74 really does look very much like a female to me - maybe the confirmed results will be in by next week.

There is more good news from the northern islands - the first eaglet since 1949 on Anacapa was banded this week - A-75

Ostrich Thank you so much for the updates; I have missed K10 and K26 this season!! A74 is a majestic beauty wow . Cruz looks amazing... so wonderful to see him back in the area and looking so healthy too

The blood tests have confirmed that A-74 is indeed female - so a younger sister for Cruz.

Some good news for those of you those of you that are missing Mom K26 and Dad K10 of the Pelican Harbor nest located on Santa Cruz Island (part of the Channel Islands). Bette a very kind and generous CHIL member has donated and allocated funds for a brand new cam for the PH nest so we will be able to watch K26 and K10 again soon! Mom and Dad PH had a very busy pre-nesting season...if you recall they actually built two new nests and abandoned the original nest (a nest we all loved) so as a result we were not able to watch them at all this year. At their new digs...Mom and Dad PH raised one healthy vibrant chick this year; A-74 Karana and she fledged on June 25 2011.
