Hi Sher, I would love to live there in your area. For me, anywhere near the water is good. We use
to live in Carmel and that's where I want to go if hubby ever retires.
What a treat to see mama bear and her cubs! They are beautiful and healthy looking. Did you follow the
Black Bear cam here on HWF? I have followed Lily the mama black bear since last year. It is awesome to
watch the cubs being born and follow their lives.
Here's the pigeon I mentioned who was out back on the deck looking for food.
Finding that there was no food, she decided to check out a pot I'm preparing for a plant. She bent over looking
and pecking at the mix that is in there. She kept trying to get in but the she was too big. She tried every spot on
the rim, turning in and out, but couldn't make up her mind to try it or not.
Me too - for living near the water.
I must say I would rather live near or on a lake (fresh water you know - I grew up in eastern Canada - lake country),
but the ocean will do. Love the pigeon in a pot - sounds like a nursery rhyme.
I have started volunteering at the Wildlife Rescue Centre I mentioned earlier and they have 5 pigeons presently who
have been brought in for everything from missing an eye to broken wings.
They also presently have 4 fawns with them. They are an amazing couple who do all this from their home.
They even had a baby seal in their bathtub for a day until he could be moved on the a better site, this year.
No I didn't follow the black bear cam - just recently heard there even was one.
I got so immersed in the eagle cam at White Rock that I didn't think to look for anything else.
I stopped by the Sechelt eagle nest to see if Sunset and Ocean were still here and guess what -
both eaglets and a parent were there, as was I from 2 until 5 when I ran out of memory on my camera card.
Here is a picture of the three of them - I think it is Ocean leaving at the top.
Sunset seems to stay long periods in the nest while Ocean comes and goes.
The parent hung around for a while and then flew off as well.

This is the view they have from their nest

"How you get there is where you’ll arrive"
Our support of HWF provides us the privilege of viewing this amazing process!

Hi Annie,
I found some info on the Duranta, Honey Drops, Golden Dewdrop, Pigeon Berry
Origin: Tropical America
The popular name of this large erect shrub is inspired by the clusters of bright orange-yellow berries that follow the flowers, in such quantities that they often cause the slender branches to droop gracefully. The lavender-blue or white flowers appear in loose clusters, and both berries and blossoms are often seen on a plant. Flowers have a mild sweet vanilla-like smell. There is also a form with variegated leaves, as well as one with bright yellow leaves; these do not bloom so profusely and are usually grown primarily for their foliage. Duranta requires frequent pruning to make a bushy plant, especially when used as a hedge, and needs full sun to bloom well. Bringing the potted garden a unique burst of color and form, this amazing cultivar surpasses the standard lavender cultivar in brightness and intensity. Use as a basket plant, a mounding bush or train into a standard, this plant will give the color deep purple new meaning. As free flower as any Duranta it covers itself in dripping chains of bloom. Each petal in the flower is defined by a light lavender boarder and marked by a white eye. A stunning sun lover that will bring months of gorgeous color to any garden, sunroom or conservatory.
If you give it your 100%-you will succeed

Good morning!
Double Your Donation!
One of our long-time members has offered to match up to $1000 in donations made between now and midnight today, Monday, August 8th - so if you've been thinking about making a donation - now's the time to do it!
David really needs to know how much money is available so he can make the hard choices as to which cams will be upgraded and which will just get a cleaning and a bit of routine maintenance - and with this matching challenge, there's never been a better time to support the cams.
As of August 7, we've received $4,295 - which is great, but we've got a long way to go. It will cost around $12,000 to get a good pan-tilt-zoom cam at Sidney - and we also want to at least clean, repair and do routine maintenance on all the other cams.
You can donate now with CanadaHelps or PayPal, or call Hancock Wildlife later this morning when the office opens (toll free in Canada and the United States) - click here for details on these and other easy ways to donate.

Delta 2

White Rock

We wish all our nests had cams as spectacular as White Rock's - and we need your help to do that.
Please give what you can, and a little bit more.
Thank you.
