Back to the story of the deer on the power line that was dropped by our eagles, the newspapers in error said it was in Helena. It's really near our house in Missoula. We didn't bother to correct the story because he didn't want to have a bunch of local people wandering around all of a sudden. The biologist and I have attempted to keep this special nest out of the local papers. There was a fear that people would stop on the road to look at them and perhaps get injured. We also worried that some people would wander onto the railroad tracks, which is illegal and dangerous. That's happened in the past. Plus we didn't want "our babies" to be agitated. But it was definitely our Missoula nest. Just trying to keep life simple. |

This evening, there's still one on a lower branch, never moved all day. One remained in the nest. But just now, one flew into the nest. I can account for three right now. We know at least one has been able to fly to and from the nest now. Still can't see a fourth one. Just trying to keep life simple. |

Thanks for all of the updates, Sue! I suspect it's going to be hard to see four at once, especially if two are already getting their wings under them, so to speak. It does sound as if one of the younger ones might still be perched somewhere working on his/her upper body strength - which is a great reason to not do a lot of local publicity about the nest. If there is one perched nearby, he or she will be a lot less stressed without people wandering around looking to see if they can see an eaglet. |

Poor baby spent the night in the same branch he was at all day yesterday. There are two others in the nest this morning. Still haven't see all four at once. I'm sure as they get confident at flying, they'll come all to the nest at mealtime. Just trying to keep life simple. |

The eaglet below the nest is definitely one that can't fly yet. Perhaps it really is the youngest one that the biologist though it was several days ago and has been working its way up the tree. Last night it made it to a higher branch and stayed there out on that branch all night. It could see the parents bringing food to the nest. Poor thing just kept looking longingly at the nest. I have not seen it get feed, but it still could be getting food. Just trying to keep life simple. |

Oh, no! Baby on the tree branch below the nest is suddenly gone. He seemed like he was acting weaker yesterday and today. The biologist is out of town for a few days, so I can't call her. Now there's only one in the nest, the one who hasn't flown yet. Just trying to keep life simple. |
