Mom has been standing staring down at the chicks and the egg which is under the chicks.

Who knows what's going on with this egg but it certainly has looked odd for days now. BET, I agree that it has another shell covering part of it . That may have something to do with it not hatching.

Does the egg have a big hole in it or is there grass laying on it ?

Oh, the chick moved and so did the debris laying on the egg.

Mom is chirping softly and acting very odd or should I say odder than usual since she is a very different female than typical.
I think something is happening with that egg and she's hearing it. She hasn't turned the egg but she is definitely staring at it closely.


I'm almost afraid to think that the chick in the egg won't get free with that extra shell over the egg.

Mom is calling louder and has the one chick calling as well.
Each time Mom reaches down the chick lunges at her.

He wore himself out and flopped over and fell asleep with his wing over his sibling.

Dad arrived. Didn't bring food but may have brought in a stick. Mom is chirping at him the entire time he's doing nestorations.

After a lot of pacing around the nest Mom is finally in a semi-brooding position.

Mom is up doing a lot of sneezing and finally coughed up something . She's fine now. May have had a bug or bit of grass go up her nare while digging in the bowl

Dad arrived after Mom called. He didn't bring anything with him. After a bit of chattering from Mom he flew off again.


Mom has done very little brooding this morning. The temperature is 19C and will go to 24C today. With the high humidity it will likely feel more like 30C

Dad dropped off a fish and eventually flew off after Mom continued squawking at him.

Mom is feeding the chicks.
