As I was approaching the Victoria Airport last Friday, I saw 2 eagles flying around behind the treed area next to the parking lot. They both landed somewhere in the treed area and at first I didn't see them but when I looked through my lens I saw one in the new nest and the other one perched nearby. This is the nest that used to be a red-tailed hawk's nest and I'm assuming it's the eagles from the S. Airport nest that have taken over this one after their's blew down over a year ago. They called back and forth to each other a few times then the one in the tree flew off towards the intersection of McTavish Rd. and Pat Bay Hwy. where they perch looking over the water. Here are a few pix. You can see the eagle's tail feathers in the 1st pic. Click bigger. One touch of nature makes the whole world kin. ~ William Shakespeare |

Before I went by the Victoria Airport, I saw an eagle perched on top of a tree on Lochside Dr. looking out over the water. It eventually flew off over the Pat Bay Hwy. and in the direction of the Victoria Airport. I'm assuming it was one from the new nest by the airport parking lot. A poop shot in the 2nd pic. Hi Kay: I see you also took advantage of today’s blue sky. Nice photos by the airport. The blue sky helps when trying to find the tiny white spot in the nest. It’s a real chore on an overcast day when the eagle blends in with the sky. First you must follow before you lead. |

I went to the Lochside Dr. nest on Tues. May 24th and saw both adults flying back and forth across the highway to the freshly cut field. There are 2 eaglets in the nest and they were hungry. I experienced a few terrifying moments when one of the adults dropped down onto the side of Lochside Dr., which runs parallel to Pat Bay Hwy. There were cars going both ways on Lochside Dr. and I was afraid the eagle was either going to fly into one or be hit by one. It flew up and swooped down 3 times before flying to the nest. I think it probably had caught a mouse in the field and as it flew over the highway it dropped it and swooped down to pick it up. I couldn't get any pics because there were too many cars in the way and also a couple on their bikes who stopped to watch the eagle. Here are a few pics of the eaglets in the nest. Mom is on the left, and she was telling Dad he did a good job of bringing home the meal. Click bigger. One touch of nature makes the whole world kin. ~ William Shakespeare |

I stopped at the Lochside Dr. nest on my way home from Pat Bay Monday. An adult (Mom) was in the nest feeding the eaglets. Click bigger. One touch of nature makes the whole world kin. ~ William Shakespeare |
