Hi Beans,
The link doesn't seem to work. Is there any other way to get to the Raven video?
Thanks!

I had the opportunity to go SEE the whooping cranes yesterday.....they were released from their netted pen on Mar 14. immediately #1 took off and didn't return for 4 DAYS!!! BUT DID return and is part of the cohort. 1 crane has delcared independence and left the cohort..... so they are now considering when 9 come home that's good. they are planning to do a flyover to go find the one that is hanging out north of the area.
It is certainly a learning experience to REINTRODUCE a species.... the hope was that all ten would go out to forage in the day and return to the pen which has predator protection for them, at night. 9 do come back.....eat from the platforms....settle in, and then for some undetermined reason instead of staying put and going to sleep, they leave in 2 groups and go to different locations for the night. of course, they are trying to determine WHAT makes the other locations more appealing.
they are going to be posting information on the LDWF website and there are pictures there now, depicting the arrival and release of the birds.

a blog is in the plans, where the biologists will give updates.
it was a great day and quite fun to see them.
suffice it to say, all 10 are doing well .....whoo-whoo!!!!

While photographing the Jericho Eagle nest today, a couple who were walking by shared the location of a Kingfisher nest. So I made the trip over to take a look. I was told the nest was only a couple hundred meters from the parking lot... Actually it's 1Km. I didn't pack the big lens, so the shots are cropped substantially. The nest is heading towards "wreck beach" in Vancouver. (clothing optional beach). The nest is a triangular hole in a sandstone cliff, about 50' above the beach. While I didn't personally observe any activity at the nest. There was one adult who was making a lot of noise, and flying between the trees in the area. Here are some photos.

Here's the nest location. Check the tides before hiking in.
