Thanks Larry Grin

Well the weather has been less than desirable as of late. Although I can drive past most of my nests, the rain and snow have prevented me from doing any photography.

With the Fraser river rising, I would say that most of the eagles have left this area. The nest beside the railroad in Matsqui, has residents nearby most times that I have driven past. I have spotted one eagle near the Hatsic lake nest on Eagle rd.

As soon as it's dry again, I will be out with the camera and more notes on the nests.

I have finally made it back out... Today was windy but the sun was shining. I grabbed a hot timmy's and headed out to the nests.
My first stop was at the Mission bridge star. On several occaisons over the last couple of weeks, I have seen a pair in the nesting tree as I drove over the bridge. They weren't in the tree today, but they were close making claims on the fields nearby.

The nest has held up well in the winds.

I headed up Hwy 11, between Bateman rd and Valley rd.. I don't have this marked on the map at the begining of this thread, but I have mentioned it a few times. In the past there was only one nest. For whatever reason they abandoned it and moved over a couple of trees. They were both sitting pretty in the new nesting tree when I arrived.

A railway runs right underneath the tree.. But they don't seem to mind the noise.

I decided to see what was happening at my main nest on the Matsqui Trail.. I headed down Page rd, I was rewarded with a Beauty sitting in the field.
That's Mission in the background.

After watching the eagle sit in the field *this is a random eagle and not my nesting buddies, I drove on... Brrrrrrrrrr it was alot colder on the river than I had thought. Bundled up. Headed up the trail.. I could see the perching tree and I spotted that white tail and head right off the bat, but I couldn't see any others around..

I am amazed at how easily such a large bird can fly through the branches and not wipe out!

This was the eagle, who just seconds earlier was in the perching tree..

I didn't even see the mate come flying in from behind me, I was too busy trying to capture the first one.
