I have a couple of additional thoughts regarding what might be keeping Birdsie from sending PMs. I'm not going to quote the previous posts as they're probably on this page or the previous page, and do take up quite a bit of room.

The first thought is that Richard made some changes to how the forum checks to make sure you're logged in - so the first thing to do is to try to send a PM - just in case the problem is solved.

If not, I did a bit of research on the glFusion web site (that's the software the forum uses), and there can sometimes be an issue with Firefox, especially if one "has an extension or add-on in FireFox that is suppressing the HTTP REFERER. There is an add-on called RefControl that can cause issues with the tokens." So the first thought is to go to Tools: Add-ons and look under Extensions to see if there's one called RefControl. If there is, you may be able to click on it and disable it. If so, see if that helps.

The next thought is that there is a newer version of Firefox out (I'm using 3.5.7) - so you might try upgrading to see if it was a bug in the version you have and has now been fixed.

The other thing I learned from the website is a bit more complicated - but there can be a problem if you use hancockwildlife.org when you log in, rather than www.hancockwildlife.org. I don't think it should matter, because I think for this you'd be redirected to www.hancockwildlife.org - but I suppose it's possible that it does matter, and if the shortcut you normally use is missing the www, it might be a factor.

Anyway, those are my thoughts for the day. Let me know if any of them work.

And thanks for agreeing to help debug this! Left thumb up

Hi JudyB--
Thank you so much for all of the thought and effort you put into trying to figure out my PM sending problem. The only thing, so far, that has worked is using my husband's computer, a WindowsXP Pro machine. I sent you a test PM successfully from that machine.

My husband and I spent a romantic Valentine's Evening tonight at my computer! Wub Wub We had a good time. Luckily he is a very technical guy and helped me go through our checklist of possible problems.

To summarize, I made each of these changes and tested the PM feature after EACH change. Not one of these changes enabled me to send a PM. The things I tried included: I updated to Firefox 3.6, I cleared "everything" from my history, I checked my Firefox add-ons and plug-ins--no HTTP REFERER or Reff Control was present. I enabled popups from HWF, I've been using www for my login to HWF, I tried the Internet Explorer browser--with all of the same clearing of history and tinkering with security fixes that I did on Firefox. I made sure I had all of the latest Windows updates. None of these things enabled me to send PMs.

It kind of looks like it must be some sort of security setting on my machine--since it worked on his machine. My husband and I can't think of what that would be--we haven't set any unusual settings that we are aware of....sigh sign
This week when I go to work, I will use my Windows XP machine at my office to try and send a PM to you.

Has anyone else said they can't send PMs? or am I the only one?

Thank you again--for all of your troubleshooting and care--I really appreciate it. I will keep you posted. Thank You

"Security Token Failure" : PM Sending Problem FIX

With the help of my husband and JudyB we finally found the problem that kept me from sending PMs--

I use ZoneAlarm security on my computer and there is a setting in it that was interfering with my PM messaging. A setting in ZoneAlarmInternetSecuritySuite->Privacy->CookieControl->Custom
named "remove private header information" was checked. When I unchecked it I could send a PM.

This setting looks like it involves the "http referer", which JudyB mentioned may cause problems.

Thank You Thank you so much JudyB! --Birdsie
