Eventually, this smaller seal showed up to join the fray, but for some reason, it all ended just then.

I made my way to Goldstream Provincial Park, a few kilometers off the trail.
The salmon run has not really begun yet. There were a few salmon jumping out in the estuary, but the stream water level was too low. The salmon are waiting for some rain to swell the stream, and the eagles are waiting for the salmon to spawn so that they can then eat them. I was told that it may be 6 weeks before the eagles are there in numbers.

Pileated Woodpecker that I spotted along the trail.
It was foggy and dark in the woods, but this bird was quite close and didn't seem to mind me taking its picture.

Doug, Enjoyed the photos from your ride. The photo of the harbor seal under water next to the school of fish is pardon the pun, a "great catch.'' Look forward to more of your adventures on the trails.

Hi Kay * This seal was getting its fish the old fashioned way, but in the tourista season I guess it begs for breakfast. Well that explains why it was unconcerned with my presence. I didn't realize that the seals down there are somewhat tame. Still, it was fascinating to watch it work.

Hi Ed * It has been a good fall season for a few trips, but I think the outdoor adventure season is mostly over around here. It looks like rain and wind is on the menu for the foreseeable future. I'll still be looking for opportunities, but I'm a bit of a fair weather outdoor enthusiast {wimp}. Bike touring in rain and wind isn't much fun.
