wooohooo Jewill to the cooler temps! We got them too, talk about sweet relief I was out like a kid with a new bike taking it in and having some fun now that we could breathe!

oh my that's hard to get ones brain around how a Canada Goose and a Seagull are called Bald Eagles excuse me? Apparently we have a whole lot of awareness yet to get out there...sheesh

awww that 's good that they all got a fresh shiny new start and what a hoot how they acted just because the food was a little late. Too funny and that makes sense that their instincts are telling them to fatten up. Thanks so much for another terrific report my friend, always look forward to them. Wub

Jewill your story of the Canada Goose and the Seagull cracked me right up Rolling on floor laughingTitter
I feel bad for the poor birds and I suppose getting a rescue call for them is better than no call at all in case it was a raptor.

The Canada Goose and Roll eyes Seagull story really struck a funny nerve Titter.

waveHi Jewill, I always enjoy reading your reports of the 'goings on' at O.W.L. There are a lot of people out there who would benefit from a class in wild bird and raptor biology and IDRoll eyes However, they were concerned enough to call and report the dead goose and injured seagull; some would just ignore it and say 'Oh, that's nature!' Too bad you couldn't have taken the goose home for dinnerGrin

Oh my…another scorching hot day today. My main concern was to keep the birds well hydrated by ensuring their pools and bowls were clean and full and, for those who like it, to spritz them down. It seems that the eagles, hawks and falcons really like to be sprayed but for the most part owls do not, the exception being the Snowy Owls. Here is a link to a YouTube video of 3 eaglets being misted at MARS on Vancouver Island.

Eaglet Bath

I got this from the Hornby Forum and I certainly don’t want to steal their thunder since these 3 eaglets are rescues that they are closely following, but I didn’t think they’d mind my posting it here, especially since it’s in the public domain of the internet. And since it's not at OWL it's technically off-topic for this thread but it gives you such a good visual of what all of us in wildlife rescue do each and every day.
Meanwhile back at OWL there is nothing much to report – no weird rescues, no crazy birds getting caught in traps, just the usual cleaning of the cages and feeding of the birds. Tomorrow is banding day and I believe there are about 30 birds who will soon be wearing their permanent metal bands. Due to a prior commitment I can’t make it down there to help and/or take pictures; however I have asked (OK, begged) to be part of at least 1 or 2 of the upcoming releases.
The only other thing I have to share is this picture of my little lovie Sarah. I’m not sure if anyone knows that Sarah can read, but this proves it for any who are skeptical. That’s Sue, OWL’s primary educator, holding the book (check out the title Titter).
