Empty nest for a while now !!! Well over 3/4 hour .

I think perhaps something about the egg does not seem right. I've been reading through all the good observations here and on the Maine forum (thanks, everyone!), and while none of the times that the egg has been left untended are long enough that an egg couldn't survive - the number of times it's been left alone for half an hour or 45 minutes or more is a bit daunting.

I also did a bit of research this morning. The only eagles I can remember that laid a second clutch of eggs after losing their first eggs were the Norfolk, Virginia, pair, in 2008. They laid the first egg of their first clutch on February 1st. Starting February 12, they were harassed by a young female who was apparently trying to take over the nest, and stopped incubating over the next few days. The eggs were removed February 19. The original female returned to the area February 20, and the original pair was seen mating February 24. The first egg of the second clutch was laid on March 16.

Which is a long way of saying that based on what little information we have available, it's likely to be a month or so before they lay additional eggs, if they decide to try again this year.

1:15 Out of the nest bowl ~~ standing on the nest next to the bowl ~~looking around .Then sits back in nest bowl .
Very windy there~~ Snow seems to melting a bit.


Checked in at 1:47 and the nest is empty .

One eagle flew back in at 1:55


Going off line now ~~ i am going to baby sit for a few hours now .

Belle? returns to nest with stick, looks down into the bowl then steps down into it and arranges stick at 10oclock corner. She is digging in bowl or possibly turning egg, has back to cam so not sure. She turns around to face 9ish and settles into nest bowl.


2:30 pm
Belle remains in nest bowl in same position.

2:40 pm
Belle in same position, only her head has been moving as she looks around her.

2:50 pm
Same....This is the longest period of time Belle has been incubating today. Isn't it too late now? I mean,the egg has been left untended for long periods of time today.

3:00 pm
Belle still in nest bowl, in same position.

It is now 6:45 Pm~~ Belle is Eating ~~ You can here the cracking of food .

Belle Flew off and came back with a stick ~~Is back in the nest bowl now .6:57 It looks like they brought in a few sticks today .



It is now 8:50 and Belle is still in the nest

So glad to hear Belle had some groceries today and alittle concerned
the eggs were left unattended for periods of time today; but i am still holding
out hope for this couple
