sassyk - -amazing shots of the Seabold eagles and great souvenirs of our visit there last Monday. Clapping The eagles (and crows) certainly put on a show, they must have known they had out-of-town visitors. Wink

Capo99 - fabulous shots of the eagles near Port Renfrew. Left thumb upWho knew a turkey vulture and eagle would perch side by side.

There are no longer any chicks in the Lewis nest Sad I don't know what happened to them but the adults no longer spend time at the nest, although I occasionally see one or both perched on nearby trees.

On July 28 I noticed that one of the Seabold eaglets had begun branching

Yesterday July 31, it had fledged! I didn't spot it in the nest, but found it perched at the top of a nearby tree.

Since then the fledgling has come back to the nest several times to eat and visit its brother/sister. love

Lesley, great pics of the Seabold eagles. I'm glad to hear one of the eaglets has fledged.

August 14: I've been out of town for nearly a week, but it looked like the younger Seabold eaglet is still branching. it seemed to be having trouble flying or hopping back up into the nest.

Its older sibling flew beautifully from a perch tree near the nest to another one a half block away. Smile

Hi bop wave

Monday, August 15th.

I visited the Seabold nest this afternoon. When I arrived there was a juvie perched on a branch just up and to the right of the nest.

A bit of trivia for you about the 'reddish' tree in the foreground of the photos. It's an arbutus tree. The Arbutus is restricted to a narrow band along the south coast of B.C. and generally occurs within 8 kilometres of the ocean. It is often found on exposed rocky bluffs overlooking the ocean.

I did not see or hear the parent land but when I got back up to my car and turned to have a final look back I noticed an adult had landed and was perched on a branch in a tree close to the nest tree.

a little bit more of my afternoon at the Seabold nest...

It was quite warm this afternoon so after about 1/2 hour I moved to a shady area (this is probably when the parent eagle landed) and heard the cutest sounds coming from just the other side of the fence. Turned out to be a family of quails and of course I could not resist capturing the little family as the parents led the babies through the lattice...
