Does the food stored in the crop begin the digestive process or does it stay exactly the same as when it first went in? I was thinking about the whole opossum tail being stored in the crop how in the world will it transfer to the stomach during a crop drop?

I do not want to see that pellet when E9 casts it... (although eagles can digest some bone.) Wooh

E9 not quite sure what to make of the new prey

Almost looks like a flying squirrel. Very small.

Big ears and big eyes

You can see the flap on the leg now. I do think Flying Squirrel or Sugar Glider.

11.38 H to the porch and down to lower out limb, vocal.

adult in treetop perched now, not sure if H went up or what.

12.16 the adult is gone from the tree top perch, I didn't see them leave.

12.31 adult arrives from across the road, lands in the tree top perch.

12.36 E9 up and stretches, ps, some wingersizing.

12.39 E9 notices the prey and picks it up, moves it around the nest.

Will E9 begin to de-defur it, tear into it or wait?

lol carrying it around while flapping.

1.10 H dropped down to the nest from the tree top perch.

1.12 H takes the squirrel from E9 and begins feeding.

H preening E9 as they walk around the nest.

LOL E9 wants nothing to do with mom's preening.

not one bit! lol.

Harriet sure is preening E9 quite a bit. I don't remember her being this persistent with the others.

Maybe E9 is "dirtier".

E9 doesn't seem to preen themselves as much as previous ones? Interesting whatever the reason.

E9 pecks at mom, stop it stop it! lol. Nope H is the boss and making a point of how important preening is.

Thank You SWFEC Team for the observations!

M NEST ACTIVITY CONTINUED

Just like a mom, she cleans up the kids before she cleans the dirt from her head and the feather from her beak.

2:17 M15 in with a food. He was hovering with it before getting to the nest.

M begins feeding

I think Harriet just ate the pelt of the previous squirrel

I really couldn't tell what it was. M15 had what he brought in under him the whole time feeding.

When M brought the food in, he never defurred whatever it was. He just started feedin E9 within seconds of coming into the nest.

4:08 Harriet left the nest tree. Adult in outer branch, not sure which one. Cam1 pans around and it is Harriet.

Thank You SWFEC Team for the observations!
