Welcome to the Henderson Nest thread for the 2016/2017 Season

If you visit the Henderson nest in Roberts Creek you are welcome to post comments and pictures here.

This nest was new to the forum in May 2016 though it has been active for several seasons before that. The nest is on private property but can be viewed from the beach. To view the nest, walk on to the beach from the Henderson & Beach Ave pull-out. Nest is visible to the west over 2nd house on the tree with severely broken top

  • 2016 - 1 eaglet Henderson, fledged on or before July 7

Thank you for opening this thread Heather!
I visited Henderson Beach yesterday to check on the nest and to, of course, look for eagles. None to be seen. It looks as if Henderson left the nest in pretty good condition.

Pictures taken on the east side of the nest, as you enter the beach. A few sticks are missing on our left but they hung down, would have dragged on the nest so hopefully that is good. I don't know how the other side tolerated his pre fledge antics. Grin

As we were returning to the car a very nice lady stopped to enquire what we were taking pictures of. On hearing, she told us of a nest up the road a bit and we found it, thanks to her very clear instructions! Yet another to add to the growing list. I will make sure it is active this year before opening a thread on it, our Flume Creek nest.
Heather, I will be in touch with you about it, hear you've known about it but not found it.

Sandra, that sounds like the nest that I was told about several years ago but Earl & I couldn't find, I believe David & you came with us another time but we didn't spot it, is it near the Provincial Park there? Clear pictures.

Yes Marg, it is right where we were, at the corner on Beach Rd where Camp Douglas is. We were down on the beach looking. This is on the other side of Beach Rd. If you stand in the parking lot of Camp Douglas and look to the NE you will see the nest tree. I couldn't walk in to it but Angela did and found proof of eagle presence.

Great job Sandra! That definitely sounds like the nest Angela and I have been trying to get to see. We have a friend that lives near there and she reports that its been occupied each year for the last few years so fingers crossed they'll be back again this season! It would be lovely to have another active nest thread

After a bit of a storm surge last week I made a nest tour yesterday to check on 8 of our nests here. Our Henderson nest looks stable thankfully. It gets no protection from the winds off the Strait. No pictures, protecting my camera from raindrops.
The entrance onto the beach from the parking area is not as friendly to maneuver as it has been. Large logs have been thrown up by the waves I presume so one must climb onto the beach rather than walk. Wink
