This thread is for ground observations and pictures of Bald Eagle nests in the Westshore/Metchosin/Sooke areas which are located 30- 45 minutes west of Victoria.
There are several nests in this area that have been successful in raising young over the past 4 or 5 years.

Last year's thread can be viewed Here

I went to Witty's Lagoon this morning with my sister. The tide was very high but we were able to see the nest from Tower Point. One eagle was perched on the marker on the rocks offshore and the other eagle was perched at the top of the tallest tree near the nest tree. It was a very dull but crisp fall day; not the best lighting for photos but better than no photos Roll eyes

The eagle on the marker flew off several times and one time it caught a fish and landed on the rocks to eat it.

Back on the marker after it's meal. This one definitely looked like the male.

There were no eagles seen or heard around the Farhill/Park Rd. nests today.

The nest at Langford Lake is completely gone now. Half of it fell last winter and the eagles did not nest. My sister continues to see one eagle flying and fishing at the lake and I saw one this morning flying over the road near the lake.

2 weeks ago a friend was at the Farhill Rd. nest and both eagles were perched at the top of the nest tree looking down at her.

The eagles have not rebuilt their nest in the same tree at Langford Lake. My friend looked for a new nest without success; however, my sister continues to see the eagles flying around the area and fishing in the lake.

We visited Witty's Lagoon a couple of weeks ago. There was an eagle in the nest. Long shot from Tower Point.

A friend visited the Farhill Rd. nests a few times while I was away and said there were no eagles around and both nests looked like they hadn't been fixed up.

I visited this past Wed. and did not see any eagles; however there were 2 eagles calling back & forth across Albert Head Lagoon; one flew over being chased by a raven. It landed at the top of a tree and soon the 2nd one landed in another tree close by. They were calling back and forth to each other. While one was flying to join its mate, a Red-tailed hawk chased it and it landed in another nearby tree. A few minutes later both eagles flew off towards Albert Head. Quality of the photos isn't good; it was a very dark, dull day.
