I would think of a female Boat-tailed Grackle (Quiscalus major) but the distribution doesn't fit.

Nice shots!

wave Kay - Very pretty bird and nice shots. I'm thinking it's a Thrasher, but which type, I'm not sure. :dunno:

I took these photos last week in Southern Utah. Iím 99.9 percent sure the first photo is a Stellerís Jay, but Iím not sure about the second photo, which was taken about 100 miles away from the first photo. Is it a young Steller, some other type of jay or some type of blue bird? As always, thanks for your help.

Hereís another mystery from last week I hope someone can solve. There were a couple of dozen Canada geese in a field near Loa, Utah, when I took this photo. I could see what I thought looked like a Snow Goose intermingled with the Canada geese (first photo). I zoomed in on this photo for a grainy closeup of the bird in question (second photo). Anyone have any idea about this white bird? My first thought was some sort of albino Canada goose, but, according to Google, there is no such thing as an albino Canada goose, but there is a white Canada snow goose. Can anyone solve this mystery? Again, thank you in advance.

Iím reasonably sure this is a red-tailed hawk, which was taken near Zion National Park. last week. However, Iíve been wrong before when Iíve been reasonably certain. Am I right or wrong? Thanks again.

Hi Ed * I think you are right about the Stellar's Jay. The Stellar's Jays around here don't tend to have the distinct white forehead stripes, but the books show the stripes.

The Jay without the crest may be a Scrub Jay. Similar to a Mexican Jay, but the range of the birds and the slight white eyebrow lead me to the Scrub Jay. That's my vote.

The others are a mystery to me. :dunno:Puzzled
