This is a new nest that was discovered recently.

WELCOME TO THE 2016 SEASON!

HENDERSON BEACH NEST

Welcome to this thread. If you visit the Henderson Beach nest in Roberts Creek you are welcome to post comments and pictures here.

I will post a picture of the nest here in this opening thread later.

Some of our forum members have a few pictures to post to the thread. I am excited to see them. I have not visited this nest yet so will let the people who post here give more of an explanation. I do believe that an eaglet has been spotted.Red Heart

Marg thank you for opening this thread as hatching has happened and pictures are spotting nesting activity so far showing 1 chick. I took these pictures April 19.

This is a new nest to us this year in Roberts Creek but not to the area. On entering Henderson Beach from the parking lot look east beyond the second house for this tree and there is the nest.

The nest looks good and solid, nice and big. It wasn't until I looked at my pictures that I could see that an adult was in brooding position.

On closing in on the image the adult is more noticeable. Pictures can be enlarged by clicking on them twice.

Hi everyone, Karen here doing my first post and hoping it works.

Yes! Thank you Marg for opening this thread. Aspen and I stopped by this nest the morning of May 5th and saw the two adults but no chick was visible at that time, after a while we left to check on other nests. On my way home later that afternoon I stopped by the nest again and saw a little head appear while an adult was in the nest. The pictures are not the best but as it was the first time I saw the chick I thought I would share them.

Here are a few more pictures from May 5th.

One of the adults returning to the nest with a meal after flying at and ambushing a Great Blue Heron and then taking its catch.

These pictures are from May 11th, I was surprised to see how large the eaglet is after only seeing a head above the nest before.

Pictures can be enlarged by clicking on them.

Checking out his (or her) surroundings and probably wondering when someone was going to feed him, which did happen shortly afterwards but the adult was facing the wrong way for pictures.

Karen, welcome to the forum! You found your way around with posting very well! And what wonderful pictures to share! As Marg said, terrific action shots!
We've seen the heron on the shoreline near the nest with each visit. Perhaps it is a resident heron. We'll have to watch for it when down there. You certainly witnessed special activity with the food steal and then photo op with the eagle flying the food to the nest. Great followthrough. And then the intruder chase away. Clapping
That youngster looks to be doing very well. I wondered how that nest would be for photographing. Good it would seem. It is wonderful getting assurance of eaglet viability so early on.
Well done. We're glad to have you aboard. Left thumb up
