This thread is for pictures of the Spring 2016 open house at Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society (OWL) in Delta, BC. David Hancock is a regular featured speaker at these semi-annual events and HWF has a display booth there manned by our local members. Thanks to everyone who helped this year.

You can see that the event was very well attended both days and the weather cooperated as well. Our tent was located right next to the David Suzuki Foundation, which was quite appropriate seeing that it was his program 'Nature of Things' that featured HWF and David Hancock last February. The program will be rerun on Thursday, July 17, at 8 PM on CBC.

Please clip on the pics twice to view them full screensize.

Darlene, on left, and Heather, on right, are manning our table on Sunday. Thanks to Yolande who helped us on Saturday but I didn't get a picture unfortunately.

Our tent was located right behind the 300 ft. flight cage so we were privileged to get to see a pair of beautiful golden eagles who are at OWL while they are being rehabilitated. I do not know their history and why they are there.

Heather also took pictures and will post them here as well. Thanks to her hubby, Stuart, who donned the 'Harrison' eagle mascot costume to promote the eagle festival.

Hello Everyone,
Day one of OWL's Spring Open House was so busy! Which is a really great thing. I enjoyed pitching in with Karen and Yolande on Saturday! And the weather was perfect! Not too hot, and even the odd gust of wind was tolerable.
I didn't get as good as picture that Karen did of our two cage mates behind us. I did manage to get a not so bad one of one of these beautiful birds.

I'm so proud that my husband, Stuart, stepped up to the plate, and put on the Harrison costume! He was a real magnet for young and old alike!

Saturday's raptor release consisted of not one, but two Bald Eagles!! I believe they were two that had gone down in a fight a couple of weeks ago, and were found in a trail by a passer by, still locked at the feet/talons. They healed and are finally free!

Here is Karen Wheatley, and I think that is Bruce on the far right and Colin getting ready to release Eagle 1

And away he goes!!

The second Eagle was released by Karen herself!! With a little assistance, she gets ready!

Day 2 turned out to be another beautiful day. I actually think it was warmer than it was on Saturday. I checked in with Karen, and help her with the last little bit of set up. Darlene arrive shortly after!
I managed to get a couple more of the Golden Eagles that were behind us.

On both days OWL had a learning circle set up where, at different times of day, visitors could gather and meet some of OWL's educational birds.
On Sunday, I had the opportunity to sit in on one of these sessions. And the star of the show for this session Sonsie!

Jen and Rob were there to answer all of the crowds questions, and did a super job! As always!

It wasn't long, and it was time for the release! On Sunday, a Juvenile Bald Eagle was released back to the wild. I am so sorry that I didn't get a picture. There were so many people. I think there were more people in attendance on Sunday than there were on Saturday!
I did, however, manage to get a photograph of this gentleman who was standing next to me, taking pictures of the crowd, I think.

I think I know this man! Roll eyes
Harrison, once again, graced everybody with his presence! This time I had the privilege of escorting him through the crowd! Nodding yes Watching the all the children's faces light up with excitement was so rewarding! So many pictures, hugs and high fives. This Bald Eagle truly was a huge hit. Karen Wheatley even took a second to have her picture taken with him. I apologize for the turned picture Karen. sigh sign
