It doesn't take too much imagination to be transported back to the 1890s as you walk around the townsite.

It's funny how things turn out sometimes. For more than a year I have been trying to locate an eagle's nest near the St. Eugene Resort Golf Course in Cranbrook. One of the holes is even called "Eagle's Perch". But I began to wonder if the stories of a nest were in fact no more than that. Then I spotted it yesterday completely by chance. I was taking pictures of the river as I walked upstream. I had just stopped to make a short movie of the Bluffs and the river, when something caught my attention on the far bank. At first it was difficult to tell if it was an eagle's nest. I wonder if you can spot it?

So I used my zoom lens. Sure enough it looked like an eagle's nest even from that distance.

Then I used my digital zoom. I could tell that it was fairly large, certainly big enough to be an eagle's nest. Given all the deciduous trees growing around it, I understood why it has been so difficult to detect at other times of the year. Now I can't wait to see whether the nest is active.

Interesting how different my walk to Potato Butte was yesterday afternoon compared to Sunday.

However, hoar frost on an overcast day has its own beauty.

But square nests are a bit different!
