Thanks to CAL04 for bringing this cam and the sister cam at the Dunrovin Ranch to our attention. The nest is located in Missoula, Montana, on the Clark Fork River and and thank you HWF for featuring it on your web site along with a nest thread where we can post our observations, scaps and videos......giving us the opportunity to learn about these beautiful birds....

The AXIS P5534-E camera, computer infrastructure and internet connection were donated by the Riverside Health Care Center. Real time High Definition TV - available in Riverside HCC's lobby - was donated by Raptors of the Rockies. Logistic support provided by Northwestern Energy. This camera is also supported by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and their Bird Cams Project.

On the left side of this cam you will find all the information that you need..FAQ, Timeline,Project History, Heavy Metal Studies, Lab Facilities, People...

This thread is for scaps, videos and observations of the Osprey..Please limit smileys to three per post....Thank You and Enjoy!

As a courtesy to viewers with slower internet connections, please limit the pictures in each post to no more than a total of 150,000 bytes (150KB), and please do not post animations (though it's fine to post a link to them). To avoid horizontal scrolling, please do not post pictures that are more than 500 pixels wide - though it's fine to post a 500-pixel-wide thumbnail that clicks to a much larger picture. The forum attachment software conveniently handles that task - so you can attach larger pictures, and a properly-sized clickable image will appear in your post. The preferred format for pictures is JPEG (.jpg), and three 500-pixel-wide JPEGs should be under the 150KB limit.

Incubation Period for eggs. 35 - 42 days.

Chicks fledge between 53 and 60 days old....

Time Line
[*] Adults return ~~ Iris is home April 4, 2016 ~~ sadly Stanley did not return, but a (perhaps young) male appeared around May 3rd, and brought in sticks and fish for Iris, and accepted her invitation to mate (though a bit clumsily), and she accepted the male we're calling "New Guy" for now as her mate.

[*] Eggs Laid

[*] First incubation by new male - May 11; longer incubation (25 min) May 13
[*] New male named: May 18 - Louis, in honor of Salish elder Louis Adams
[*] Eggs hatched..Sadly none .
[*] Banded
[*] Fledged
[*]Last seen Thursday morning Sept.8 forum/viewtopic.php?topic=909644#909644

wave To all the Hellgate friends and family...

Thank You Bev for opening up the thread for another Season with the Hellgate Osprey's

First, If you've been watching lately you will have noticed a goose excluder on Iris's nest. Here's the latest from Dr. Greene as was posted today on the Montana Osprey Cam FB page.

"This Canada goose was showing great interest in the Hellgate Osprey nest on 3 March 2016. This is the first time in about 25 years that geese have shown interest in this nest."

"You can see that the Canada goose was certainly persistent! But the goose excluder did the trick. We will take it off the nest as soon as the Ospreys arrive back."
