Great pictures of the slightly spiky eaglets, Debs!

These are from
June 25, 2010
and show them getting very comfortable perching at different places on their branches. I haven't seen much flapping, but it's hard to catch on a refresh cam. I'd expect that to start before too long they're now a bit over 10 weeks old. love

The cam is back up this morning. Smile

When I first brought up the cam a little before 6 am this morning, neither of the eaglets were visible. They've been branching all over the two visible branches, and we suspect also up into the tree. A few refreshes later, both were back - one in the nest, and the other out on a branch.

Around 9 am, an adult showed up with a fish - and no eaglets showed up. It's now been 20 minutes, the fish has been sitting there, the adult left, an adult (I think the other one) put in an appearance - and no eaglets. They may be branching - sometimes eaglets flap hop up to branches and then have issues figuring how to get back - but we might also have fledglings!

Tinker is 76 days old and Tailor is 75 days old - a little younger than the 11 weeks when we usually start to look for a fledge, but last year's eaglets fledged when they were 75 days old - so it's definitely possible! Grin

July 3, 2010

Well, both eaglets did indeed fledge the morning of June 30th. The adults were in and out of the nest all day, and brought several fish to the nest - and no eaglets! They finally appeared around 8:15 pm, perched way out on one of the branches. These are Doralyn's pics from the Maine forum, and we're pretty sure they're both out there:

They did quite a bit of coming and going on July 1st, though we only got one pic that might show both of them. Doralyn is the expert on this nest, and was pretty sure she saw both eaglets. There a lots of post-fledge pics on the Maine forum, starting here.

And here are some pics from July 1 - click for slideshow - 24 pics:

And then the cam froze at 3 am July 2, and with the holiday weekend, I'm not sure when someone will be available to check on it. Sad
