Elle was kind enough to give Laurie and me, and perhaps others I know not about, directions to the winery. We sat in the shade, interacted with the owner's wife and their two daughters and two dogs, Australian sheep dogs I think they were, while having a glass of wine - she did, I didn't, I'm driving.
16. The nest there had two birds in the fledging phase of life which means a lot of wingflapping in the confines of the nest and beating each other over the head while doing so. Then they would settle down. Natcherally, they did the "down" bit when I tried to take a picture, thus in the photo you only see mother.

17. Speaking of nests, here is the view from my nest during the Fledge Fest days I was in Sidney.

18. And I leave the picture posting with a goodbye to a soaring fledgeling named Solo. So appropriate for its solitude in youth but now grown into the transition period before the loss of a dark head and the appearance of the beautiful, full, glowing white, head that tells the others it is time to start a family. Up and away, to fade from our view into your history to be written in the sky so blue.

adieu

I will post the quiz answers later, so keep checking fot the next day or so.
If you enjoyed the post about "Distance" that is the type of posts I made throughout last year's group of three and this year with Solo. The links to both years, individually, are on page 6 of this thread.
Thanks to everyone of you for making my FF visit a great one. My only regret is that time did not let me come to know each of you. Mel

Thanks for pointing out these posts. In the meantime I've run out of Kleenex so won't be able to view post haste.

Thank you Terry........and all who arranged this. It was great to see what transpired up in Sidney and the fun all y'all had!
Here is a Tribute I wrote for Solo on 7/2/10.
A Tribute to Solo
Solo, you grew but we did not really know you. Last year this motley crew watched the three grow with trials and tribulations galore. We sort of knew their eagle - sonaltiies and could tell their distinctions. We missed them when they left, yet, we just saw one and possibly it was Tiny Tink!
You grew behind a curtain that obscured you from us. Think about it though, we do not see most eaglets grow and can only imagine. We heard you daily and started to recognize your sounds and when the view opened for a moment saw you greedily eat or hover over your food to protect it as Ma was patiently teaching you.
It seems a blink of an eye and you have fledged. You will be around for a tad, we know, and you have yet lots to learn. You get to learn to catch them fish finding out they were not a gift just given to Ma and Pa, but rather effort extended to bring you sustenance. You provided a respite for Ma and Pa this year who did not need to provide as much as last year - a tough year for them. This year was tough in different ways - losing their one nest and one potential eaglet. But they are tough and just adapt.
You are a beauty - huge, something to look at in awe. This is what it is about - watching you or hearing you grow and they letting you go. Letting you go with joy that you learned well and you will thrive in the wild bleu.
Ma and Pa you have done well........
7/2/10
Carolyn
