6:34 pm
Chick on Mom's left was getting most of the offerings while chick on the right was trying to self feed.
Mom has now switched and is feeding the chick on the right a few pieces as well, but he's still trying to take the fish out of her talons.

6:45 pm
Both chicks have quietened down a little bit after being so vocal.
The chick that was on the right of Mom had moved over to her left and appears to be getting more to eat.
He's not quite as vocal now. I'm glad to see he didn't miss out on the entire meal.
6:47 pm
Chick that got the most food has now moved away while the other chick gets the last of the meal served to him.

6:51 pm
Meal is over and Mom is calling out.
7:04 pm
Mom's been calling in her "chattery" voice for 15 minutes now and doesn't seem to be letting up.

FRIDAY, JULY 23, 2010
WEATHER: Sunny, High 27C
4:25 am
Camera is not coming up for me this morning --- only the circling cogwheel in the center of a black screen
Thunderstorms were predicted for last evening so I hope it didn't affected the camera.

Just got in from work to see the cam is up.
Mom and the young ones are standing at the nest rim.

3:23 pm
Mom flew off.
This nest definitely needs some good nesting material for the bowl. The chicks are spending too much time near the edge.

Chick on the left is having a difficult time staying comfortable. I don't know if something is in his ear or if an insect keeps bugging him but he is continually shaking his head to get rid of whatever it is.

I was out so I've missed a feeding if there was one. The chicks usually aren't quite so quiet and subdued if they're hungry so I hope this is an indication that they were fed earlier and not being overly docile because they're lacking food.
7:11 pm
Chick on left using his siblings leg for a pillow.

JKR, I couldn't get the the cam this morning, as you said it was down.
My last post saying there maybe a fish shortage at this nest, was referring to the nest, not the fish supply in the area. Many things can contribute to a fish shortage..the male not having great fishing skills. The male may be spending a lot of time defending the nest from intruders, taking his fishing time and energy. It could be competition with other ospreys or eagles attempting to steal his catch. The fact that there is very little, if any nesting material added to the nest, points to a competition issue...no time...
Also, the fact is, when food is in short supply, the adults eat before they feed their young, nature has a good plan, hard but good.
There are a lot of insects, a healthy nest has no problem with them, a stressed nest does....we can only observe, learn and hope for the best.
On the positive side POOP SHOTS mean they ate!!!!
