Is it normal for the momma to make all the groaning noises, it sounds like shes in great pain. First time I have watched bear cam and don't know anything about them. Hope she is ok just concerned she may be having trouble.

daleef,
she is fine. yes, she has one cub who is now 5 weeks old....we will start to see the cub moving around now that her eyes are open and she's figuring out how to move about. however, her ever vigilant mom is in charge, and will keep her tucked in, out of site, when there are humans around, or when its too cold. this is this bear's first experience at parenting and she seems to be doing a great job. sit back and enjoy this rare experience.....

Oh my - I haven't checked in here for a while - the pics of the little bear a few posts back are amazing! I hadn't realized he/she was already old enough to be left alone for a few minutes. It really doesn't seem as if it's already been five weeks.

This was posted by AP today and I've decided to add it here.....it is certainly unfortunate that this woman chose to put her hand into a bear's cage!!!! I think it imperative to remember that black bears can indeed be unpredictable. I am curious to see if Lynn will address this latest incident in his daily writings......

Woman bitten by bear at Wis. zoo, fingers severed

The Associated Press

MANITOWOC, Wis. (AP) — Police say a bear bit off a woman’s fingers at a Wisconsin zoo after she ignored barriers and warning signs to try to feed the animal.

The Lincoln Park Zoo in Manitowoc closed after the incident Friday morning. Police say the 47-year-old woman lost a thumb and a forefinger, and two other fingers were partially severed.

The woman’s boyfriend was bitten as he tried to pry the bear’s mouth off her hand, but he didn’t lose any fingers. Her 3-year-old granddaughter wasn’t injured.

A mayor’s office statement says alcohol played a factor.

It’s unclear which of two Asiatic black bears bit the women when she put her hand through their enclosure’s fence. Police tell the Herald Times Reporter the bears likely won’t be euthanized.

Manitowoc is about 80 miles north of Milwaukee.

I shold hope the bear will not be euthanised in this case..!! Its clearly a case of people being stupid and (under-the-influence..).
The reactions of some people, never cease to amaze me.!!:!:Mad No fault of the bears.

I will take this occassion to congratulate all the people involved with the camera and info about Lily and her cub.
We are learning a lot about brown bears.
Thank you. Thank You .....to Jwnix and all others involved in this project.
