Mom has been standing on the nest. Looking about, ignoring the eggs (as usual). A house wren came visiting. Mom just watched her hop along the perch and then down onto the nest. Mom did not make any move towards the wren.

Glad to see your images from early this am Jazzle. Look at the nest now!

What a mess. Are the eggs under the rope? Not that I have much hope for their viability, but there is always the maybe.

BET, I just posted a WHOI nest update on the WHOI CAM BLOG. Part of my post addresses the "trash" issue and will answer your question. I also included my thoughts on the eggs. You an go to the blog for the full post, but this is the part regarding trash.

"Trash in osprey nests is always an issue, but not much can be done about it. Ospreys bring it in, take it out, bury it under sticks and sometimes the weather takes care of it. Sadly sometimes it becomes a danger to both adults and chicks, we can only watch for trouble and try to help when need. I was at the nest yesterday, the blue rope is now in the bushes under the nest, but likely they'll bring more, it's an on going issue. Osprey nests in the Mid-West, North-West and UK have baling twine and mono- filament fishing lines brought into the nests, trapping many ospreys. Trash left in the nest at the end of the season, if not blow out by winter winds, is usually covered by new sticks at the start of the season….then new trash is added!!!"

Mom had been perched on the cross bar - as usual when Dad flew in
with his fish gift. Mom grabbed the fish before one could blink

Something caused them both to go on alert

False alarm, Mom took off with the fish and Dad took over incubating the eggs.
Only two visible. Have to wonder how deep the other two are buried.

BET, I'm sure a Red-winged Blackbird, was the cause for alert, there are a lot of them...just doing their jobTitter

I posted yesterday on the WHOI BLOG about this issue, hope this helpsWink I'll include a pic (not posted on the blog).

"Some cam viewers may have observed what appears to be intruders, again.  This is not the case.  There are Red-winged Blackbirds nesting in the bushes below and around the platform.  They now have their fledglings on the ground and are pestering the ospreys, which they consider a threat.  For the ospreys this is like having a mosquito buzzing around your room at night, and it should end soon."
