Thanks for the updates, Jazzel!

In the "small world" category - while reading the CHIL forum from California, I found a reference to a video from Australia that Lisa (the Blackwater webmaster) had mentioned on the Blackwater osprey site. Lisa noted that the adults' heads are quite a bit lighter than those of our North American osprey.

This is about 9-1/2 minutes long, and follows an osprey chick from hatching to fledging. I thought it was quite wonderful, and Charlie stopped what he was doing to watch with me.

There is quiet music in the background, so be aware if watching in a public place. 8)

And enjoy. Grin

Judy, I haven't been to this page in a while...what a great videoClapping

Now the reason I'm here..New migration update from Rob...Check out the Vulture Titter

Greetings from an iced-in Charlotte. Typical winter mess down here. Snow then rain, which all froze, so you can ice skate down our street.

All our Ospreys are down in much warmer places and they're all doing fine. I updated all the maps through the end of 2010. Just a couple of months before the adults head north!

There are quick links to the new maps for the youngsters (interesting movements by all, including our S.C. bird, Buck) on the Migration 2010 page:

http://www.bioweb.uncc.edu/Bierregaard/migration10.htm

I've also included links to the newest maps for all the birds (scroll down to the list of all birds with links to maps and bios). Where I have indicated the latest updates, you can click to go to the newest maps.

On a related, but non-Osprey topic:

Some of you may have heard of a satellite-tagged vulture found in Saudi Arabia being "charged" as an Israeli spy. It's true. Happy ending--the vulture was released.

While we've never had an Osprey accused of spying, we did have trouble getting a transmitter back from the Venezuelan military, who thought it was some sort of spy device.

Enjoy and stay warm.

The cam is up on the Maine osprey nest streamed by BioDiversity Research Institute (http://www.briloon.org/watching-wildlif ... m-live.php) - and someone is at home!

I'm at work so don't have the option of adjusting the contrast to reduce the glare - sorry.

And it does look as if they have a bit of work to do!

Added - 9:25 am EDT (a few minutes after my initial post)

Just saw both of them!

And I checked the BRI ning and someone in the area reported seeing one on Tuesday, while the cam is down - so not sure when they arrived, but both are here now!

A bit of an update on the Maine nest - just to show what can be done in less than a week:

Here's what the nest looked like on April 7 when both were first seen back at the nest:

And this is what it looks like today, April 13:

[As an aside, only the second picture is an attachment; the first picture was already uploaded when I attached it on April 7, so I inserted that same picture using IMG tags. The other admins and I have the same "one attachment per post" limit as everyone else.]

We'd be forever in your debt for some help!

I would rather spend my life close to the birds than wishing I had wings
