A chick was in the nest about an hour ago but it didn't appear to be our chick. The coloring and markings looked quite different. I tried to capture a picture of the leg as I don't think this bird had a band on the right like our chick.
11:05am- Chick in nest but doesn't look like ours!
Jean, the Osprey in your pic is an adult, good observation Thanks for documenting this nest

Our chick has not been at the nest when I check in. I hope she is alright since Florida was hit by Tropical Storm Debby this week. As you can see the putting green by the nest is flooded, but the nest seems to be intact. I hope I can get a few more looks at our chick before she is off to her new life's journey!

8:18pm- Putting green is flooded.

Jean, Barb Walker sent me a text this afternoon, they recovered a banded osprey, she said it was one of last seasons juvies from the Dunedin cam nest. They are still working on getting birds rescued and back into nests...hit hard.
I was out on my nests when she sent the information, I told her I'd email her tonight for details, I just got in.
I'll post whatever details. I do hope this seasons juvie is ok, maybe just wet and following the male for food.

Jean, I hope the 2012 Dunedin Cam juvie made it, but if not, it is banded so we can confirm if recovered/rescued.
The Osprey Barb recovered was from the 2011 Dunedin Cam nest. This Osprey was photographed on 1/25/12 near the Dunedin Causeway, the same location it was recovered. The band couldn't be read clearly in the photos, but we did wonder if it was a 2011 banded osprey from the cam nest. Now, sadly, confirmed.
This does give us important data on the study of South Florida Osprey migration. This Osprey hatched April 2011, fledged June 2011 and was photographed January 2012 ( 9 months old). Banding is important.
Barb also said they had many calls re: Ospreys from the storm, and the Black Skimmer colonies were demolished...so sad.
The juvie may be following the male for food, but fishing is hard in these conditions, hoping for the best..a plus, this is a very healthy juvie and the male has only one to care for...
If you do Facebook, I don't have time..but Barb always has a lot of information on her page.

Good Morning Bev!
I too am sad about the loss of our chick from last season. It was such a hard season to watch with two losses and then we were all thrilled to see the surviving chick fledge. Hard to believe it was just a few months ago I was down in Dunedin and surrounding areas and all was well. We visited Fort Desoto, Sea Coast Sanctuary, saw the Skimmers, etc. It breaks my heart to hear of all the great loss of wildlife from Tropical Storm Debby!!
I pray that our chick is found and alive!!
