10:35am- Head buried, wing extended. I was getting worried that our chicks wing might have been injured but a little later he had it drawn up and moving alright.

Banding always stresses nestlings, and the older they are the more stressed...but they quickly recover, as you observed. Imagine seeing that bucket with two humans, then being taken off the nest, after your mother flew off Then the ride down and back up...and all the humans on the ground. Also, they can hear the adults distress calling overhead.

Good Morning Dundedin! Good Morning All





7:13am- Breakfast time!


7:14am- Chick is getting most of the bites, but Mom is taking a few for herself now and then.

5:32pm- It's been quiet at the nest. Our little chick is relaxing, watching the cars go by.

8:01pm- Chick is alone in the nest. Doing a lot of preening and then looking around towards the road. Hope he got a belly full of food today. Didn't see any other feedings than the one I saw this morning.

7:10am- Mom has a small fish and is feeding chick his breakfast.

I still haven't seen much self-feeding by the chick. Not sure if food is scarce and Mom is feeding so she gets some food for herself as well!???
