This thread is for ground observations and pictures of Bald Eagle nests in the Westshore/Metchosin/Sooke areas which are located 30- 45 minutes west of Victoria.
There are several nests in this area that have been successful in raising young over the past 4 or 5 years.

The beautiful forests, lakes and beaches in this area have been regular destinations for my husband and myself for many years as we like to hike, kayak and beach comb. We enjoy nature and viewing wildlife in a natural quiet setting.

We are aware of several Bald Eagle nests in this area and there are likely many more!

One nest was lost when the entire top of the tree broke off in a storm. As I recall this was in 2012.

I will be back with pictures and videos from 2010 onward.

Here is a video of a Bald Eagle chasing a duckling at Witty's Lagoon. You can hear the eaglet peeping in the background.

Video Camera Here

This video was recorded in June 2013.
BTW the duckling got away Smile

And a video of the resident Bald Eagle pair flying over the beach toward their nest . It was recorded in July 2010!

I have reported on this nest on another thread I created for nests on Southern Vancouver Island here. This nest is in the general vicinity of Albert Head Lagoon. I can see the nest tree from the lagoon and the eagles perch in the trees around the lagoon, no doubt hoping to catch a meal. I visited the general area yesterday and was thrilled to see both eagles at home. The male was at the nest when we arrived and the female arrived a few minutes later. There were 2 Turkey Vultures flying around quite close to the nest tree and the eagles were letting them know they weren't welcome Mad
