Thanks to CAL04 for bringing this cam and the sister cam at the Dunrovin Ranch to our attention. The nest is located in Missoula, Montana, on the Clark Fork River and and thank you HWF for featuring it on your web site along with a nest thread where we can post our observations, scaps and videos......giving us the opportunity to learn about these beautiful birds....

The AXIS P5534-E camera, computer infrastructure and internet connection were donated by the Riverside Health Care Center. Real time High Definition TV - available in Riverside HCC's lobby - was donated by Raptors of the Rockies. Logistic support provided by Northwestern Energy. This camera is also supported by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and their Bird Cams Project.

On the left side of this cam you will find all the information that you need..FAQ, Timeline,Project History, Heavy Metal Studies, Lab Facilities, People...

This thread is for scaps, videos and observations of the Osprey..Please limit smileys to three per post....Thank You and Enjoy!

As a courtesy to viewers with slower internet connections, please limit the pictures in each post to no more than a total of 150,000 bytes (150KB), and please do not post animations (though it's fine to post a link to them). To avoid horizontal scrolling, please do not post pictures that are more than 500 pixels wide - though it's fine to post a 500-pixel-wide thumbnail that clicks to a much larger picture. The forum attachment software conveniently handles that task - so you can attach larger pictures, and a properly-sized clickable image will appear in your post. The preferred format for pictures is JPEG (.jpg), and three 500-pixel-wide JPEGs should be under the 150KB limit.

Incubation Period for eggs. 35 - 42 days.

Chicks fledge between 53 and 60 days old....

There was a hailstorm that destroyed all 3 eggs from this season...........hailstorm on May 30, 2015.

Here is a video by Lin Lawson showing the devastating event.

Over the next 2 or 3 days the eggs were removed one by one by a parent. They had been too badly damaged to survive.

Hello everyone!
Tomorrow afternoon we will be switching to a new livestream feed around 1pm ET. Don't panic if you are unable to see the nest. This stream should have better quality. Getting prepared for the return of Iris and Stanley.

Thanks Jean for re posting the links from the other thread.........

From F B
Montana Osprey Cams

Hi all,
Earlier we had thought about moving the nest platform, putting up and perch on the nest, and putting up an infrared light so we could see the ospreys better at night. We surveyed the site very carefully, and it turns out that the sites where we could move the nest we not all that far away from the current pole. It turns out that the level of disturbance would not have been any less if we moved the nest. Also, we would have had to run new power and computer lines out to the new pole if we wanted to have the camera still work. All this would have cost a lot of money - we would have considered this if we thought the disturbance at a new pole would have been less. But the disturbance would not have been any less, and in fact might have been greater.
We were also going to put a perch up on the nest, but that would have been something new for the ospreys to contend with. And so in the end, we decided that the best chances we have to have Iris and Stanley stay at this nest (if they survived the winter) is to leave the nest as it is in the same place. If they do come back and nest at this nest, then in the future we will make these other changes. But for this breeding season our goal is to try to encourage them to stay here. If they do, then in the future we will think about making these other changes. Just one challenge at a time!
Cheers, Erick
